Stuart Atwell and his team were poor yesterday and if that's the best the English League have to offer no wonder we need VAR.
Soft free kicks given all over the place so the game failed to flow, booking Coops for a full bodied but fair challenge, not stopping play when we had a man down leaving it up to Villa to kick it out of play (the ref determines when the game stops not the players), not seeing the foul on Kodjia prior to our goal, not stopping play when Kodjia was down (the ref determines when the game stops not the players) leading to our goal and a near riot (i have to say I thought Bielsa got that wrong and shouldn't have ordered a walk in goal, you play to the whistle), sending off their player for no reason.
Very poor afternoon Atwell et al.
Premier League Ref, Really?

The game appeared to be too big for him, poor decisions and little game control.

I got the impression he was used to the funereal atmosphere of most Premier League games and was simply blown away by Elland Road yesterday. He was probably expecting a nice quiet game between two teams already in the play-offs. Welcome to Leeds, Atwell. Now scurry back to your sherry and prawn sandwiches at the theatre of dweebs.

Soft free kicks given all over the place so the game failed to flow - he was consistent.
Booking Coops for a full bodied but fair challenge - havent seen it on tv but the former Leeds keeper Paul Robinson apparently thought it should have been a red card. "There is a case for that to be a red. By the letter of the law, yes he has left the ground, he’s out of control and has taken his opponent out. "I wouldn’t have been surprised if he had been sent off. He is lucky to stay on the pitch there.
In the olden days it’s a great tackle. He’s taken the man and the ball. But you can’t do that now and he’s lucky to be on the pitch."
not stopping play when we had a man down leaving it up to Villa to kick it out of play (the ref determines when the game stops not the players) - he shouldnt stop play unless its an head injury.
not seeing the foul on Kodjia prior to our goal - it wasnt a foul.
not stopping play when Kodjia was down - he should not stop play unless its an head injury
sending off their player for no reason - linesmans decision and the fault of Bamford not the referees who have a difficult job to do without players acting like that.

“Attwell made a prominent debut in 2008 as the youngest person ever to referee in the Premier League but was demoted from the Select Group in February 2012, returning to refereeing in the Football League.”
“In February 2012, Attwell was demoted from the list of Select Group Referees and returned to Football League duty on the National List. The move was said to come by mutual consent. Professional Game Match Officials Limited general manager Mike Riley backed Attwell to improve as a referee and return to the top level.”

So be it. Woukd have beaten them twice over the season and from what I saw yesterday they've been well and truly overjoyed. They're good, but not that good.

I don't tend to berate refs, it's a tough job at the best of times.
But Attwell was appalling. Grealish had him completely in his pocket and he just seemed unable to deal with the match effectively or fairly.
The "incident" i'll give him some slack for, it was a strange set of events - stemming from a player who was constantly falling over and did it again. Cried wolf too many times in the match and was ignored when probably actually injured.
Villa were embarrassing for me throughout the match. Diving, time wasting and whinging constantly.
