A view from the east stand

I enjoyed the first half and thought we played pretty well to be honest.
Here are a few of my thoughts,

Thought Matic was pretty poor yesterday, made a few decent bursts forward but constantly gave the ball away and was far too slow to release it.

as for Herrera the guy needs to be paid what he is worth, he was absolutely everywhere yesterday.

we were far too slow to put pressure on players as they headed towards our box, the goal being a prime example where we let the chelsea CB have a shot from distance without ever trying to close him down.

the first half hour or so was very good, after that we seemed to lose our way and the Chelsea goal knocked the stuffing out of us and left the crowd very flat for probably a good half hour after.

Thought mctominay was decent again when he came on but really didnt understand Ole's thininking behind that substitution.

although mctominay played well, yesterday was a game we really needed to win and taking off Mata and bringing mctominay on instead of Martial when we really needed that second goal made very little sense.

apart from buzzing around for 5 minutes when he came on Sanhez again made no impact on the game, and while Lukaku did ok, he is one lazy fecker.

as for chelsea, gonzalo higuain was born offside!!

oh, and Chelsea really need to improve ont here chants... think i really only heard.. chelsea, chelsea, chelsea, chelsea for 90 minutes.

Agree. He’s a hatchet man and a very good one at that.

...............

He isn't a hatchet man. What he is, is one of those 'in your face all the time' players. There is a difference.

There's a bit of the Dennis Wise about Herrera. Without the punchable face, obviously. I mean that in a good way.

Busby

Just think how much better our midfield would be if we had someone decent instead of Matic.

I have no idea why Ole is not playing McT in that role. He offers more than Matic does.

McTominay will get his chance I feel. He forces the issue going forward (without any great technical ability) and he wins practically every 50/50, in games like yesterday that is important.

I think people forget that as good as the run was when Ole arrived, it took a lot out of the players both physically and emotionally, I think we ever really recovered from what was a really tough period of fixtures.

Players like Rashford, Pogba, Lindelof, Young, simply look worn out after 60 minutes.

I was thinking more of a Lee Cattermole, who I thought would have been a really good midfielder had he had a yard of extra pace.

Yep; this is our biggest issue - fitness and stamina - and one that will need to be addressed through both conditioning and recruitment.

As for McTominay, I may well be wrong (it has happened, repeatedly), but I don't think his future is going to be at DM.

Probably not, but it is the position I think he looks more suited to.

Harrera might not be the most talented player in the squad, but he actually gives a $hit which goes a long way and works hard, unlike most of the mercenaries in the squad.

I was waiting for Martial to come on but when he didn't, it made it clear that Ole does not have faith in him.

We did well and if Dace did not gift them that goal, things would have been very different.

Herrera is massively underrated by many for what he does. He's not there to score goals or make fancy passes.

Nope heres there purely as a hatchet man and yes he does whats expected of him…...

Being a Chelsea fan, you should know exactly what a hatchet man is, as you had one of the very best at it in the 60 - 70's.

Herrera isn't by any stretch of imagination a hatchet man, unless you are utterly clueless in it's meaning.
