The Impact of Departures

Morning all, hope you are enjoying the holiday. I enjoyed our great run and like most realised it would come to an end. Whilst I've been defensive of our players under the useless management of "The Jose" I suspect the summer upheaval is impacting on our performances.

When Ole challenged the players by saying he would be successful at the club and some would be with him and some not, I expected a reaction. One of the threads here also talks about our reactions to defeat or even going behind in a game.

I've rarely seen this team angry or react to disappointment well and whilst we have some skilful and talented players, I fear they don't have it in them to pull their socks up and get stuck in. It is a shame that Herrera appears to be off as he is one of the only ones with it.

As fans we had a good run with Fergie and need to understand that it will take some time to get it right. So I'm happy to give Ole time to get his players in, ship these "nice guys" out and become more ruthless as a club. With signings and with contracts.

Hopefully the 25% reduction in wages will hurt them.

It is going to be a long hard couple of seasons and we need to be patient and support the team.

It'd be interesting to know how much this club will save with this 25% wage savings.

Anyone actually know the figures?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

It was written into most contracts the last time we missed out on the CL, so I'd imagine it will also have been written in to most of the 1st team playing contracts that have been negotiated since then.

The wage bill is around £290m or so. Not sure how much of this isn't the 1st team squad though. A fair chunk of it though.

Yeah, i've heard about it being putting into first team players' contracts. I know we'll never know the exact figures, but it's the only positive step that this club has taken since its major problems started.

This may also explain why some of the players' enthusiasm to play for this club now has also dwindled.

Probably be true of some of them.

We are not going to suffer financially from missing out in the CL. But it is damaging the reputation of the club and recruitment all the same.

No we won't suffer financially in the short term. But having less exposure for the club on the biggest club competition in the world is not good for United, especially to United's sponsors. The longer this goes on, the more wary sponsors become.

The 25% wage deduction maybe the first indirect real indictor that sponsors are willing to fund United regardless, but have been wary of United's instability at the top level for a while now.

Adidas had already implemented the reduction clause in sponsorship funds if we miss out on the CL X amount of times.

The Adidas cut apparently comes into play if we miss two consecutive seasons in the CL. So if we don't finish top 4 next year or win the Europa then the money goes down.

Be interesting to see what kind of deal we negotiate after this one ends though. No doubt if things aren't much better Adidas will be able to negotiate a much better deal for them.

Which has become a very worrying reality.

The way things have gone on with this club as a whole makes sponsors wary of us. But in saying that, we are just too big of a club to not be used as an advertising stream.

Yes, there are other clubs excluding the big Spanish two where brands/companies can use. But they have less effect on the commercial attraction that United has. Even if it is an unstable situation right now. So it's up to the board to rectify this.

It's a slow process. It's important fans do not become impatient with the club, the players and especially the process.

I do think a lot of it comes down to who is in charge at the club, from the manager and his backroom staff to the board. But it has taken Klopp a solid 3 years to develop Liverpool from bang average to excellent and it has taken many signings, departures and frustrating times to do that along the way.

If you back the manager and give him 2/3 seasons to shift about the vast majority of your squad, you will probably get it right. Get frustrated and axe the manager within a season, something I think is likely with Solskjaer imo, then you have to start over.

how many envelopes was he holding?

Biggest problem of the lot for Utd I think is they simply have no leader on the pitch
When players aren’t putting a shift in there’s no one to get on their case and drag a performance out of them and lead by example
It’s all very passive

Sensible article, MUDD. I still think we made the decision too early however, he is here now and has my full support. I hope he clears the deadwood and we can have a solid start next season.

Anyone thinking we are going to challenge City and Pool next season better wake up.
