Emery tactics and subs yesterday

I made an article yesterday about Emery not being the right manager for us. I take on board the fact that he doesn't have his own players yet and all that.

However, I have not seen anyone on here explain his substitutions yesterday which completely killed the momentum of the game

Firstly who makes 3 substitutions at once. That is too many to bring on especially if you are chasing the game but my issue is the strange nature of the subs.

He takes of Litchsteiner and puts iwobi at right wing back. It's well documented that iwobi struggles on the right but wing back??

Now Mkhi wasn't having a great game but he took him off for Guendouzi when we were chasing the game. Now seriously can someone please try explain this substitution to me.

These subs had a real negative impact on the team and there seemed to be no structure to our play other than to cross the ball in from the flanks which is something that just hasn't worked all season because we don't have the striker to capitalise on crosses

My real concern with Emery is that he has been doing weird sheet like this all season. Its like he is constantly experimenting and tinkering with formations, selections and subs in practically every game. The team is constantly changing and most of the times this season he has selected the wrong team only to then make the inevitable substitutions at half time. These changes were consistent in our unbeaten run where let's be honest, we were extremely lucky.

At times he has set up extremely defensively at home against mid table teams and basically overdone it with the formations.

Was he constantly tinkering things at seville or at psg?

Is this his usual pattern at other clubs also?

It's all good saying he doesn't have the players but even with the right players, what makes people think he isn't going to be doing the same erratic, non sencical subs and just completely over thinking the simplest thing?

Agree with you about the subs yesterday. We were building up a head of steam and looked like scoring. The subs killed any impetus which we had. What does he see in Guendouzi? The guy can't defend or shoot straight and always slows the play down. He can pick a good pass from time to time but he should be nowhere near the first team. I think Emery just rolls the dice when it comes to make the subs . Same with our formations . I will give him until after the Jan transfer window to show real signs of improvement.

Comical to bring on Guen the guy has 0 goals and 0 assists all faking season despite running all over the pitch every game.

Emery should have left Micky on or at least bought on Eddie. He been bringing the lad on past few games when we were 3-0 down yet when we needed a goal he doesnt trust him.

I think the problem is what do we really want a manager who was totally in flexible never changed anything, always didnt make a sub until 70 minutes. Or someone who is a bit more proactive and trys out different things. Granted yesterday didnt work but there has been times this season where he's turned things around with good substitutions. I really liked earlier in the season if you didnt play well you would be off at half time. He will be given time to get the team he wants playing the way he wants as he should. We are not an insta club like other teams we are supposed to be better than that.
