Are City and us

Set to dominate the league over the next few years?

We’re so far ahead of the rest of the league, Chelsea being closest 23 points behind us in 2nd place. The teams looking to make up the gap are:

Chelsea - average squad with only a couple top players and a transfer ban meaning any additions to the squad will need to wait a while. Can’t see them bridging the gap next seasons

Spurs - a good first 11 but not much of a squad. At a crossroads in the sense that they need to rejuvenate and replace some members of the squad but Levy seems unwilling to provide the money. I think it’ll be a similar story next season as this one, will tail off toward the end of the season with the lack of depth in their squad exposed.

Arsenal - don’t really think they’re any better than under Wenger tbh. Able to play some good football and beat most sides but struggle against the big boys and are so inconsistent with little backbone in their team.

United - not a great squad with a lot of glaring weaknesses. More rebuild work needed than some people believe i think and work that will take multiple windows to fix - if they buy smartly. If they throw money and big names again then it will take even longer to fix. Not totally convince ole is the right man for them either.

I think next season at least it will be more of the same, perhaps the season after one of the others can bridge the gap.

Back in the early 00's everyone thought that both Utd and Arsenal would go on to dominate for many years but that's not what happened. Certainly not in Arsenal's case.
----------
That is what happened though. From 98 to 2005 Arsenal and United dominated.
Took a couple of major changes to end the domination (Chelsea's windfall and the Emirates Stadium).

Why are you going back to the late 90's when I said the early 00's ??

In the early 00's everyone thought that the Utd and Arsenal domination of the league would last for many more years. It didn't. Arsenal won their last title in 2004 and since Fergie retired in 2013 Utd haven't been a top PL side apart from one second place finish.

I think it needs to be put in context, last season Liverpool finished way behind City's points total and not many would have predicted then that they would go neck and neck with City this time around but the overall improvement is pretty phenomenal.
There is nothing to say that another team won't do the same next season, Spurs would probably be the best placed to step up, although a good outside bet would be Wolves if they can keep the same team and a couple of good signings, a top 4 challenge could be on although a back door entry into the Europa could be damagjng

If we can improve on Sturridge, Origi etc on the bench, I don't see why we can't be better than this season.

So much depends on how long Pep and Klopp stay around. Also who else turns up on the managerial merry go round.
For whay it's worth (nowt probably ) I think Pep will go in two or three years but that Klopp is in for the long haul.
Two great managers, but not the only ones, we could, fingers crossed, get a good DoF, a good manager and challenge after two years, but who knows.

Also fans are funny. Lots have been getting at Pool thinking they had lost the league and CL; Now one match later asking if they are going to dominate for years to come.

I bet Utd and Chelsea fans said this after we consistently made PL titles and CL finals.

Football works on cycles. Enjoy the here and now

First the cycles before (united and shankly/paisley Liverpool) went on for a bloody long time. Second just because that's what happened before doesn't mean it's what will happen in future, the game and the money in the game have changed beyond recognition.

I will say you have to be favourites for the league next year.

City need to find a way to replace Silva, Kompany and Fernandinho in the summer. Aguero and De Bruyne are injury prone and they still haven't sorted out the LB position yet.

---------------------------Alisson------------------------------
TAA-----------Gomez-------------VVD----------Robertson

is the best defence in Europe on paper. For a team known for its devastating attack that is impressive.

A top midfielder and proper centre forward your team will be complete. Hanging on to Mane is key, can have days where he cant hit a barn door but consistently looks dangerous whereas Salah can be anyonymous.

And yet we both have the same goals conceded this year in 22. I would personally take Ederson, Walker and LaPorte before Alisson, TAA and Gomez plus Zinchenko is filling in nicely as a wingback/midfielder in the system we play and would put him on a par with Robertosn. But then again its always about personal choice and bias tbf. Both clubs have bl00dy good defenders.
