Who can help us move forward?

So we are all in agreement we need to refresh our squad, and not with galactico signings.

We managed to beat PSG away with a depleted squad and we just saw Liverpool smash Barca in a similar scenario, I believe had both sides been at "full strength" they'd not have qualified. So it isn't always about having the "best" players on the pitch.

For me, McTominay, Herrera, Lindelof, De Gea, Lingard, Fred, Bailly, Rojo, Romero, Young and Rashford fit the bill of a player willing to give their all on the pitch and for the club.

Now this leads us to the real issue, the majority of these are our least talented players. So whilst we don't want lazy and unwilling players on the pitch, we do need quality to be added throughout the squad along with leadership and grit. The obvious answer seems to be trying to take on some quality young talent.

I really don't know where we go from here, my hope is Ole can reignite a belief and love for the club within the squad. However so long as Ed Woodhead is running things, I don't see how we can ever move forward. He seems hellbent on signing players with a name when the path to success is clearly good scouting and allowing a manager to build his own side.

You managed to beat PSG with a last minute ridiculous penalty. Barca were in second gear vs United and got destroyed by Liverpool. The 3-0 home win was in no way a fair reflection on the game.

I'd say nobody in the current United squad is good enough to where you want to be & a soft touch manager like OGS is the last thing you need. Appointing him was a ridiculous decision to go along with all the others.

You need to start from scratch with a guy like Poch who can built something with balance and a clear plan but now you are stuck with OGS and his fantastic track record at Cardiff & Molde !!! At least he "has the United DNA".. whatever BS that is. Try employing people who know what they are doing !

He's got more PTS than everyone bar City n Liverpool. You might want to check how crap you've been since Christmas.

Cant deny that... Spurs have been shocking, we have our set of issues. Granted you beat us fair & square (DDG !!!!) but the rest of the wins were games that squad should have won. I think people in general overstate how good PSG are just because of the money they spend (Look at yourselves there !!!) and as result of that lucky win panicked and gave him a job they didn't need to.... I mean really, where else was he gonna go.... Back to Molde ???

With smart people in charge you could now be sitting here at the end of the season, having missed out on Top 4 evaluating everything thats happenng... New manager at Barca ??? (after last night), what will PSG do, only a matter of time till Poch gets p1ssed off at Spurs... I just think you all love Ole the player so much that its clouding a crucial business decision.

Didn't he already sanction new contracts for a bunch of players who most United Fans deemed not good enough and who failed to get Top 4 when Spurs & arsenal did everything in their power to put it on a plate for you ??? Yet all you all still bang on about winning a bunch of games against sides good teams should beat????

PSG have players like Mbappe, Veratti, Buffon, ADM. They have quality in abundance.

As for games we should have won, we beat Chelsea at SB, arsenal at the Emirates and drew with Liverpool. They weren't all games we should have won.

Fair enough... simple question would you rather have left your options open or committed to OGS when u did ?

We need character as much as we need talent now.

I was listening to the peter crouch podcast this morning and he was saying that when he moved to Liverpool he was intimidated by the standards to which Gerrard and Carragher held the rest of the squad in training, and that it was the same off Rooney and Lampard when he went away with England.

I can't imagine anyone in our squad is giving the others a hard time of it in training.

Well for a start hopefully we will begin with Kalidou Koulibaly to strengthen our porous defence

Hope this below would turn to be true

Do you know if he sanctioned contracts ? I don't know, was it published.

I think with the new contracts issued would have been a club thing as much as Solskjaer.

I know Young and Jones got new contracts, with them it is likely to be down to a couple of factors. Homegrown players, and also the fact other players also out of contract were refusing to renew (Valencia, Herrera etc...), so the club were covering themselves so as not to have everyone out of contract and not enough players left at the end of the day.

It wouldn't be too difficult to get rid of Young anyway on a 1 yr deal if that is what is decided this summer.

Its not really a simple question tho...

The run was more than new manager bounce imo, giving him the job meant we could start making plans for the summer and beyond, whereas leaving things up in the air puts everything on hold

Obv things went a bit t1ts up... I'd imagine some players have been told to look at moves which impacted performance and dressing room morale

I don't think we could really win either way

========================

A few considerations... Firstly I think you're overstating the quality of our squad. It's desperately lacking in key areas. Ole had these players performing above their level in those first 10-12 games.

We then got hit by a terrible injury crisis and a set of fixtures that most people predicted might well see us fall short. There have been a few performances in which we've simply been atrocious. Everton away, Wolves in the FA Cup, Huddersfield.

But the teams we've lost to or drawn with (and some of those games could have gone either way), have been PSG, Liverpool, Barcelona, Barcelona again, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Wolves.

Fitness has also been an issue, many of the players' mentality has been called into question and we have structural issues on the footballing side of things.

When you look at the wider context, Ole has done pretty well just to get and keep us in the top four race (until the weekend). He's not signed a single player of his own yet. We also needed stability going into the summer and we shouldn't forget that we owed Molde a bit of respect in terms of giving them time to find new management.

Rosso

New ownership isn't going to happen and if it did there is no garantee it will be better than what we currently have.

It could even be worse.
