No.6 in the bag ? Not so sure about that. Klopp has managed to bottle quite a few major finals. On the other hand you could argue this could be Klopp’s 6th final he could yet bottle. Spot the pattern indeed.

Also, I am not sure if this was deliberate, but there is a five year gap in between those periods you listed in the OP, which coincides with Barca being the dominant force in Europe. Within these five year period, then you’d be able to spot the odd one out, Chelsea.

Klopp has already lost six finals.

Klopp might have racked up a losing streak, but he's won finals before.

That aside, this is just a very strong pattern from a mental point of view, for a number of reasons. Playing for a club with this degree of pedigree gives you an edge when entering these games.

Patterns and streaks are obviously there to be broken, but this one in particular is a strong one. It's held true in seasons where the club with the greater European pedigree have been worse domestically than their opponents, it's held true in regulation wins, in extra time wins and in penalty shootout wins.

Patterns aside, Liverpool have actually been far and away the better team over the course of the season, and it would seem logcial to consider them strong favourites simply on that basis.

The single-most important factor, imo, that might tip the scales the other way is just how unpredictable this season has been, just how many upsets, comebacks and against-the-odds wins there've been, and how Spurs are probably the first and foremost example of this - in just how many times they've seemed dead and buried, only to come back and/or scrape together the result they needed each time. Their own path in this edition might just give them that belief in destiny that could make the difference they need.

Either way, it's going to be fascinating to see what happens. Let's hope it's as dramatic and epic as the rest of this edition has been.

Btw, didn't get your 5-yr gap and Chelsea reference.

You cannot win the CL without the experience of previously winning it. It's neon inpossible.

Ttime for an article explaining how this years European competitions prove La Liga is the strongest league in the world. Plenty to back it up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The league is so tough week in week out that the teams cannot compete in Europe. Valencia looked knackered from the pace and physicality of La Liga last night. Same with Barca. Having 4 English teams in the final just shows how easy the Prem is these days.

spot on Baz

this was the argument that was made, when for years, the prem clubs won fack all in Europe, and la liga clubs cleaned up the European trophies

Just stumbled across this old article ...

Not only did Liverpool win that final quite comfortably, but it turns out Chelsea have since extended the pattern by beating City against the odds in the 2021 final.
