A Backwards Step?

Afternoon everyone I hope you’re keeping well. Things have picked up for me in the last couple of months, it was a good idea to have a bit of a rest and I don’t plan on posting much going forwards as I’m still more down than up.

I’ve been really pleased with the progress on the pitch we have made under Rodgers, there’s been an element of new manager bounce which always happens with these players, but also a genuine desire to press more from the front and be more attacking focussed which is welcome. Tielemans is still one of the biggest differences and Rodgers has been fortunate to inherit a player that in all honesty belongs at a top 6 club.

The big disappointment for me, is that at a point where recruitment is going to be once again so important, the club has taken another baffling decision - this time appointing Celtic failure Lee Congerton as head of recruitment. A truly woeful decision in my opinion and evidence again that Top needs better advice from people around him.

Whenever you have Celtic fans rejoicing at a head of recruitment leaving their club then it has to be a major concern. Congerton has been a disaster. Ask any Celtic fan. Responsible for some of their worst ever signings and for getting a winger to join who was immediately loaned out of the club - because they had too many wingers already.

There could be a genuine chance to break into the top 6 under Rodgers, but not with such inconsistent decision making still permeating within Leicester. Tielemans is almost certain to leave and we now have in Lee Congerton a head of recruitment with absolutely no track record in finding talent.

Fortunately our saving grace could be that the scouts within the club are still very good, but if I start seeing players from the Scottish premier league turning up at the City ground, I’ll vomit all over my membership card and post it to Rudkin personally.

One step forwards, one step back. Been the case since we won the title.....

Great to see you back BS, hope you continue your improvement.

Noted about the views of Celtic and Sunderland fans but Congerton has a track record of working with Rodgers so that's a plus point. Also - and it still feels weird to be able to say this when comparing us to the likes of Celtic and Sunderland - their transfer budgets are tiny compared with ours, so the situations are not directly comparable; we'll see how he manages with a decent amount to spend. Time will tell as usual.

I agree with it being an important summer of recruitment (and retention) - although it usually is, isn't it? Hopefully we can mostly avoid the appalling waste on overpriced underachievers we have seen in the past.

One easy target for the club is Tielemans, but I doubt if we'll see him at the KP next season, he's now been showcased as a quality midfielder capable of playing in the Premier League. One can but hope.

I never have much confidence in our DoF, but he must be doing something right in the owner's/Whelan's eyes!
