Next season.....

Utterly devastated. I disagree, we weren't beaten by the better team, we were beaten by ourselves.

Our form of late was poor but I believe we'd become too predictable with little to offer as a plan B or C. Clubs started to unlock us as time went by.

Don't get me wrong, immense season and way beyond initial expectations. Players playing beyond previous levels. Bielsa has transformed this club and with it our expectations.

It does beg the question about next season, how do we improve further. Personnel is one way but let's be honest, Bielsa's team have historically run out of steam towards the end of the season.

Understandable clamour for Bielsa to "go again" but is that going to be enough for Leeds United to achieve promotion? It's a question rather than representative of my own thoughts.

I expect some casualties from the squad, books need to be balanced and we do have some emerging talent waiting to step up.

I'm also waiting to see what AR does next having previously stated it would be difficult to fund another campaign to the levels he did this season.

New investment or TOMA #306?

There's no doubting our potential and Bielsa has given renewed hope.

I'm not in favour of annual changes, at any level of the club, God knows we've had them for too long. However, I don't believe the impact we had at the start of this season will be replicated next, to some extent we aren't the unknown entity that shocked the likes of Stoke and Derby.

Something significant needs to change and I believe it goes beyond transfers in and transfers out.

I think if Radz stays as owner and doesn't sell us on we will probably lose Pontus Roofe and Philips for around 25 million give or take. I think Clarke will stay and hopefully Bielsa will also stay and must be given control over new signings and Orta must keep his nose out and preferably get a job with a Spanish club and leave us be.

This will be AR's 3rd campaign & as it is his 1st venture into football. Hopefully he has learned a lot & will now realise what it takes, is needed next season. The next 6 weeks could define next season. We must strike early get MB on board & then sign who he wants. Most important is getting business done early.

No 4rsing about!!

Good article, Stevie. Bielsa has done an immense job. We need continuity for a change. I am sure he will learn from this experience and produce a competitive team next season. We have a unified academy system with younger players geared towards the first team philosophy, we have players returning from loan spells, we have players whose contracts are running down. We will lose 3 - 4 key players, as will every team in the Championship, but hopefully we already have players lined up who can plug those gaps.
We are all gutted today, but we will benefit hugely from what Bielsa has brought to our club this season.

Yup MB has brought the pride back to our club.

We were definitely beaten by ourselves. Everyone can analyse goals against and come to the same conclusion but in our case it’s absolutely true and has been numerous times this season.

We started nervously, got on top and then gave a soft goal away either side of half time. We gave them hope. We then gave them a penalty, had them on the rack again and then gave them a man advantage.

It’s fine margins, but if it wasn’t for the disaster before half time, we probably win at a canter.

We’ve gift wrapped wins for teams repeatedly since Christmas.

We’re not ruthless enough at the business end of the pitch. How to change that because mb won’t change the way he plays if he stays. It’s clear he thinks the problem is quality in the final third, so I think the emphasis will be on scoring more rather than conceding less

You're right Milkyboy.

Just seen the highlights on LUTV ( no point me paying for a Sky pass when I'll be on stop/start and 3 minutes behind the action by the end ), we played well enough to have won, and, if we'd had the penalty we should have had, we would have done.
Plain as day on close-up/ slo-mo that the Derby guy knees Bamford in the back of the thigh, a sneaky and deliberate foul

But hey-ho, we're Leeds ...

Talking of sneaky and deliberate fouls, it should be an interesting final seeing as both teams are masterclass at underhand fouls. Did you see the Mason Mount high kick into Dallas’ hip? Then, shortly afterwards he did a 2 footed lunge into Phillips and then started rolling around on the ground like HE’D been fouled!!! Phillips got a yellow card and he was the one fouled! No, in a way I’m glad we won’t be facing AV in the final. I’d rather get the disappointment over and done with now than in the final. It will be interesting to see which cheating team goes up.
