Wan-Bissaka & Van Aanholt for £50m

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7034387/Man-Utd-line-50m-double-raid-Crystal-Palace-Wan-Bissaka-Van-Aanholt.html

So according to the daily fail, we want both Palace full backs. One in as first choice RB and the other as a back up LB.

I wouldn’t say lb is a priority at all, but if we are getting someone than the likes of tierney would be a big upgrade on shaw.

Right back we need to sort, WB would be a good addition.

why would Tierney be a massive upgrade on shaw?

how many players come down from the scottish league and really make that much of an impact.

for every Robertson or VVD you'll always get a Liam Miller.
lets not forget Shaw has just won our POTY, and while he has been the best of a pretty average bunch he has probably been our most consistent player and to be fair to him he has been decent.

VVD
Wanyama
Robertson
Fraser

It's been a pretty fruitful market in recent years.

Even McGinn at Villa has walked in from Hibs and is their best player if you look past floppy head.

but its no guarantee and thats my point.
tierney may very well be a great signing, but is replacing our best player last season really that much of a pressing concern?

He's not great defensively which is a surprise.

You'd expect PVA to stick to his opponent like glue.

When we have so many disastrously bad players in our squad and so much improvement to attempt over the coming window, why would we waste resources on trying to upgrade the most consistent player in the team, who has just been voted our player of the year (with the widespread agreement of most of our fans)?

When X plays in a weaker league, it's reasonable to be cautious about whether they are world class or made to look better because of the standard of the league. (On the other hand, "X can't be good because he plays in Holland - look at Alfonso Alves" is a classic of stupid fan logic.)

A helpful mind experiment in these cases would be to imagine the players in the weaker and stronger leagues swapping places. He might not look like a young Dani Alves if he played in Scotland, but Luke Shaw's qualities would certainly stand out more.

I thought AWB was gonna be like £40m or so, if you could get PVA as well for £10m more you’d be daft not to. Would mean Shaw and him for lb, Dalot and AWB for rb.

We have positions of higher priority than LB but we’re far from perfect in that area, and still much weaker than the teams we want to get back above.

It's not a priority, but if we had the luxury to improve on the player, we should do so. We don't. Other pressing matters need to be addressed.

If we sign AWB, that's 4 full backs, 2 of which can play either side in Young and Dalot. That should be enough for now and we should concentrate on other positions. We also have TFM who could play RB/CB as well.

Quite simply tierney is better. Better going forward, good in defence, more intelligent, accurate and a better passer. Agree shaw has been consistent this year, hence why I said lb is not a priority, he can certainly be improved upon.

Shaw not even in England squad again. United's player of the year.
