Keith Burkinshaw’s legacy

Guys, little bit before my time as I’m a premier league era supporter, but why is Keith Burkinshaw never mentioned as a Spurs legend? We hear all about Bill Nicholson, which is fair enough for what he’s achieved, but Keith Burkinshaw also won a UEFA cup for us and 2 FA cups. Didn’t he also bring in the 1st foreign players to England ? ( Osssie and Ricky) creating a new wave of oversees stars arriving.

I know we as Spurs supporters know of him, but if you asked most other supporters not around in that era, I highly doubt they will know who he is. He’s probably our 2nd most successful manager of all time after Nicholson. Any particular reason why he never gets the accolades Nicholson gets? Did he leave on bad terms ? Really interested to hear from people of that era watching Spurs in the 80s.

I remember watching your uefa cup win as a 10 year old, we won the European cup the following week in Rome

35 years since your last European final

Don - I was 15 in 1978 and I picked up a copy of The Sunday Mirror after the World Cup and I saw the iconic photo of Keith Burkinshaw with Ossie Ardiles & Ricky Villa it was magical -

Our two most successful managers (Sir Bill and Burkinshaw) are Yorkshiremen, maybe we should appoint Warnock or Grayson

I was lucky enough to watch Spurs in both those eras , and would have to put Pochettino in there considering what he has had to work with and his ability to turn them in to decent players

Just checking in because, you know, 80's = Glory Years. With Keith Burkinshaw at the helm. Ray Clemence, Graham Roberts, Mark Falcao, Steve Perryman, Chris Hughton (I used to work with his dad at the Post Office at Mount Pleasant, Islington. Used to see Garth Crooks and his dad shopping in Tesco's in Palmers Green. These were the days, when your team consisted of actual local boys representing the actual name/place of your team. Granted Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa - whom I think we started the ball rolling, excuse the pun, when we signed these 2 Argentinean super stars - were much welcomed at the club.

On a side, did anyone used to go night clubbing at Rudolphs?

this is our eighth final I think

biggest game was 2005, we had to win or else ropey footy next season.

This is a massive game though, a must win at all costs

Up until 1991 we had won the FA Cup more times than any other team = 8 times (incl. 1991). Ever since things started to go down hill.

Until now?
