Felix and transfer attitude

I have been hoping that we would make a big play in the transfer market and sign felix. He is someone I will admit I have hardly seen play but from the very little I have seen of him, his talent blew my mind.

But I feel when making a signing there is something even more important than talent, attitude. Do not get me wrong, I do not think he has a bad attitude. But we really need to shift away from players who are not hungry to play at united. If a player's attitude is I am not bothered if utd sign me or not I honestly think we should steer clear. After his quotes yesterday I am starting to fear he might fall into that category.

I am strong believer that people take for granted things they do not believe they have earned. Imagine joining a club you couldn't careless about joining but they simply happen to be the highest bidder offering the biggest wages. This has been the culture at utd since fergie left and we wonder why the players attitude on the pitch is iffy.

I know it’s only paper talk, but it still feels like United are using the scattergun approach to transfers. It’s a bit like football monopoly, every name you land on Ed shouts ‘buy him!’, then Ole’s got the job of fitting square pegs in round holes.

SAF would identify a position we needed strengthening, then identify potential players, then check them out to see if they had the mental character to play for United, then buy them at whatever cost.

Most of the time it worked, this current approach is more miss than hit.

It is only paper talk.

Everything the manager has said in recent times tells you he isn't having a scatter gun approach to signing players. There is twenty minute interview on YouTube that lays it out.

Yet you still want to believe paper talk.

Remember hazards attitude when Chelsea signed him?

In fact he has never shown loyalty publicly yet you never hear his professionalism or performances come into question.

i remember hazards attitude very well.
in fact hazard is avery good example to explain my case.
utd were the frontrunners to sign him but he showed zero interest in joining utd and was churning out the pr nonsense of how he is happy where he is. Then as soon as chelsea won the ucl that saw them qualify for the ucl his tune changed.
He wanted to play for chelsea and blue was his favourite colour.

It did later turnout that chelsea paymore in agents fees, but the reality was he joined a club he felt were better able to offer him the platform he wanted be it financially or the colour of their jersey or otherwise.

He also said he is joining one of three teams and used them all to get the best deal possible.

The fact Chelsea paid his agent £7m is the real reason he snubbed utd and city

so my question is do you want to spend 100 million on a player that does not value playing for your club?

my hope as a utd fan is that felix was just being modest and secretly relishes the opportunity to play for utd

So long as theyre professional and put in their all, I couldn't care less if they "value the club".

He's a Portuguese player who has probably never even been to England. Why should he have ambitions of playing for utd over anybody else,

this is probably true
but he was always going to join one of the clubs, cos he understood any of the 3 can give him a bigger platform than he had at lille

but when a player does not feel he can get a bigger platform to fulfill his dreams at utd and can afford to sit out and wait for a better club to come calling what is his attitude going to be like at the club when we finally bendover backwards like no other to sign him?

Seriously, what are you basing this wild assumption on?

If it is the case, why would you blame him, it's tpronably true. We aren't the same destination we were, there's more competition and we have a poor recent on field history.

If we sign one top talent you may see another 2 or 3 quickly follow.

they do not need to have ambition of playing for utd. What a player needs is the hunger and the view that the club they are joining can match their ambition at least more so than the club they are currently at. Or at least recognise it is a great opportunity to join said club.
