Creed Rise to Glory PSVR review

This game has been out a while, it has always had decent reviews, so when I saw it on offer in the store, I thought it would be worth a look.

Now it is fair to say I'm more a lover than a fighter and well past my prime, so when it came to the opening screen it was an easy decision to choose rookie, and decided to try out career mode.

Entering the gym I met my trainer who put me through various training regimes, Punch bag, Speed ball, treadmill, etc. these are not just a way to fill time, how you do in training translates into stamina in the ring. So it is worth putting some effort into it.

After training you get your first chance in the ring, I have played boxing games in the past, but actually being in the ring and seeing your opponent in front of you is a little intimidating.

Now swinging furiously is not a great strategy, keeping your defence up and picking your shots is key. the more you punch the quicker your power drops, so as I said if you simply go in swinging, your gloves will quickly turn red with your punches becoming ineffectual. raising your gloves gives you chance to recover, and go again.

Sometimes your opponent will attempt to land a haymaker, something you definitely want to avoid, luckily leaning back will dodge this and will open him up to a counter. My tactic was defence waiting for an opening, getting in a few good strikes then back to defence, wearing down my opponent it seemed to work pretty well, and my first fight was an easy enough win.

Onto more training, then my next fight, now I'm on the trail of world champion, and my next fight is in some sort of club, the crowd standing round the ring, cheering the fight, My next opponent was a beast, he looked huge, and his nickname Rhino was very apt, If I was a little intimidated before, this guy had me ready to go home. Still for the review I took him on, he was definitely more of a challenge, but despite my earlier concern, sticking to my simple tactics, I wore him down and knocked him out. Phew.

More training and another fight, this time the arena more illustrious, in a large hall with tiered seating, lighting and crowd more befitting of my growing status. My next fight I cant remember the guy, but I know I suffered my first knock down. you suffer an out of body experience, and you have to use the move controller by your side in a walking fashion to get back, the more often you get knocked down the further you need to go to get back in the ring.

I ended up winning but this was getting harder, thank god I only chose rookie. Anyway after a few more fights I finally made it to the World champion, the fight set in a football stadium, the spot lights befitting the big stage. The guy looked handy, and I was struggling to find the openings, the same couldn't be said for him as I am sent crashing to the canvas 3 times, It became obvious I wasn't winning this fight, my previous opponents I watched as the wear and tear of my punches blooded their face, this guy barely had a mark on him. thankfully I did manage to knock him down once, and I did take him the distance. but he was the worthy winner.

Ok that is my story, You don't have to choose career mode, you can just get in the ring with an opponent of your choosing, Rocky, Drago, Clubber Lang are all available, but I was too knackered to fight anymore.

One more interesting thing is the PVP fighting, you can take on a friend or stranger online, which I'm sure many would enjoy, all in all a fun enough experience, the only major issue being fighting takes it out of you, you certainly build up a sweat and wearing a VR headset does nothing to cool you down.

Oh well off for a shower, then a more sedate round of golf.
