Season over, time for season player ratings
Starting with defence :

Lloris - 7. Made some great saves but also a few errors, but a standard kind of season for Hugo. Shouldn’t be skipper in my view

Gazzaniga - 8. Hardly used but did well in few cup games. Has a bright future I think.

Trippier - 2. A torrid year for Kieran, superb after walker left and then a great World Cup, but regressed massively to the point we were calling for Aurier or KWP. Trademark crossing went missing. Will move on which suits both parties

Aurier - 6. Looked ok when he played but too many injuries this season. He’s a bit of a loose cannon isn’t he, never really know what you’re gonna get. I feel we need an upgrade at RB because we definitely missed Walker this year.

KWP - 6. Hardly featured, but had a great game against Bournemouth in the 5-0, assisting 3. Not sure he will ever be first choice, especially if we buy an established RB.

Rose - 8. One of the better performers, he was almost back to his 2016 best at times. After his issues he’s knuckled down and fought for the cause more than anyone. He’s so dynamic at his best and winds up the opposite which I quite like. We need more players with his heart.

Davies - 7. Another solid year, he’s the kind of player who never does anything memorable but doesn’t do much wrong either. Good squad option but inferior to Rose overall. In all honesty would be another candidate to upgrade. He’s not a top 4 quality player and wouldn’t get in any of the top 6 sides.

Toby - 6. May be harsh but I feel he’s gone downhill a bit this season and it’s a big part of why we have struggled in defence more than last few years. Don’t know if it’s because of contracts or because he’s simply getting older. He will probably leave anyway so need a top replacement here. Given us 4 great years though so good luck to the guy.

Vertonghen - 8. Solid solid solid. So consistently good it’s hard to criticise Jan, so I won’t. Got another 3 years in him easy.

Sanchez - 7. This is a tricky one. He’s got bags of potential but just doesn’t quite make it yet, he’s like the team in microcosm. Gets into trouble but has pace, also not the greatest in the air. One for the future as he’s still very young

Foyth - 5. A bit like Sanchez he’s very young so we have to be patient, great ball player but in the premier league it’s ruthless and he gets caught out way too often, like a young John stones he needs a couple more years experience. Hopefully will learn from Toby’s replacement.

Overall the defence has been a shadow of the previous 3 years, mainly due to fullbacks not being as good and also midfield not protecting enough. Will do midfield next COYS
