I said this last summer when we were debating about our non-existent transfer window and I have been saying for ages, we need a game changing signing. We need a serial winner and a world class player added to our ranks. There is no good spending a fortune on a bunch of players with potential because when it comes to the crunch, we don’t have enough winners in the squad to push us over the line as proved once again Saturday.
I’m not saying we have to go out and get Messi, but we certainly need a world class, game changing signing this summer and we need to spend big on that player. I keep saying it and people keep dismissing my opinion, but Gareth Bale for me would of changed that game Saturday had we bought him. I’m just using him as an example, as he is exactly the type of player I am talking about. Wether you disagree with him as an example or not, you certainly can’t argue the fact that he is a serial winner and is the calibur of player we need to buy to enhance our chances of a major trophy next season.
We have the nucleus of a great team, but need signings and that 1 world class player to get us over the line. It’s the biggest summer for me in donkeys years, time for Levy to step up. Time for changes within the club and the way we conduct our transfer business. Liverpool are a prime example, bought fantastically last summer and rectified the issues they had. Bought that 1 world class player ( Van Dyke) last Jan, who effectively is one of the reasons why they are now champions of Europe.
What we were missing Saturday

VVD was considered at least one of the best defenders in the league when Liverpool bought him.

Don - the sad thing was that the dodgy penalty had a real bad impact on our players but at half time I said we will win this as Liverpool were there for the taking but our big players went missing !!

I agree numbers, but they should of just dusted themselves off and gone for it like they did against Ajax. Once again feels like so close, yet so far with this team

Even if Liverpool weren't at their best, they were pretty solid defensively and we never really created any great chances because of it. 2 goals past them in 3 games.

Lot of x footballers saying Eriksen and Dele hid in the match and didnt want to take any responsibility ... hard to argue with
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dele was totally anonymous, Son very poor misplaced passing, Eriksen poor. Kane didn’t win one header or challenge against VVD. Should have picked Mpura over Kane and played the ball on the ground

I would have brought Lamela on yeah. For all his faults the one thing he does have is industry. Our front players just weren't doing enough all game.
We'd have been better off conceding a second goal earlier on as I reckon it would have forced Poch's hand into bringing on players sooner.

Don - I have experienced the highs & lows since about 1969 - with there being far too many lows - we had a great chance I am 56 in the week and I doubt I will ever see us win the CL !!
