Any guitarists out there?

Sorry for the off-topic post admins, no doubt you will delete it as you have my last few articles

Fellow JA606ers, do we have any other guitarists out there? I use the term guitarist loosely

I'm looking into getting a new electric guitar, sort of low-mid budget. I currently have a Fender Squire Strat, so want a bit of an upgrade, that and it is about 20 years old now.

I've done a little bit of research and I like the look of the Epiphone Les Paul Standard and Protop Plus. The PRS SE Standard 24 looks good but possibly slightly over budget.

Obviously the best thing will be to try them out but it would be good to know before going somewhere what to look out for.

Thanks!

I'm a drummer but even I'd recommend getting a guitar with strings. That's from a drummer as well. And I'm a big percussionist.

Ias a bassist, I made the mistake of playing without strings. Learnt a bit of is ‘sound of silence’,

I recommend buying strings. That’s from a bassist too.

The v100? Yes, I know a few people that prefer them to the Epi. It’s definitely worth giving it a play. There are differences to them (seem to remember I preferred the fretboard on the Epi, but it’s been a while and that really is down to personal preference). I’d always go with the one you want even if it’s going a bit further afield though and take your time playing a few, you’ll know when you’ve got the one you want

Great thanks Melts, definitely planning to give them both a go as well as a few others.

So hard choosing a guitar though, especially electric.
I feel like I’d want to have about four guitars and amps for a couple of weeks, in my own home, before I could settle on one.

If you can stretch, go for a Mexican made telecaster. Probably one of the most versatile guitars, you can’t go wrong. Only problem with Fenders is being American made, a new one will cost more than they used to S the pound is weak. I got one 4 years ago (a USA made strat) and they are £300 more now.

I’ve got thirteen (including acoustics) so I know what you mean!

I do tend each time to have one in mind or at least a style, I try to borrow if I can though to get more time.
