Amazon enters PL broadcasting picture

https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/premier-league-fixtures-change-rule-16410928

The Premier League is in line for an historic change this Christmas as Amazon are set to air every Boxing Day clash online for the first time ever.

This comes after the global technology giant secured a three-year deal to show 20 matches.

As part of a £90million package Amazon Prime will show all ten 3pm fixtures, as well as 10 games from the first round of midweek fixtures in December.

----------------

Interesting developments. Amazon firmly entering into the picture going forward for PL broadcasting. The first time I believe where in a set of fixtures every game simultaneously will be broadcast for UK viewers, on two occasions around Xmas time.

Looks to me like a little 'feeler' if you like from Amazon, to see how successful this test goes for them, from which they may well decide to tackle the big boys (Sky/BT) head on going forward.

Is this start of the end of the complete nonsense to UK viewers where you can pay extortionate amounts of money , yet still not be able to watch the matches you want to?

Let's hope so anyway.

what kind of quality do people need for a football match, i watched it via youtube and i didnt have any trouble seeing what was going on, the most annoying thing was the 30 second delay

ah i guess it depends on what youre watching it on, i was using a 24inch monitor, but could see people with 50 inches tvs having problems

Surely highest quality is desired? If I watch footy on FreeSports it is annoying how bad the picture is.

This is why video via a TV will always remain the main method of consumption. The big screen experience sh*ts all over the mobile/tablet experience.

Already signed up to Amazon for the tennis coverage. The punditry is good but the streaming can be annoying at times.

CL final I’m talking about we streamed on my mates new 65” top of the range tv through the YouTube official stream on their app built into the smart TV.

Even wired the internet directly to the TV just for the night to make sure there were no WiFi or connectivity issues.

Picture was still pretty poor and not as good as regular football on TV. It was supposed to be a HD stream but no chance it was, let alone being able to get the best out of 4K TV’s if everything starts being streamed.

I can't even watch stuff that isn't HD now

I can watch every 3pm game anyway, every single liverpool game.

Sky always have charged extortion but even though more matches are shown on TV now than before, when you pay for BT sport on top with other streaming services, how much are you dishing out every month just to watch football? As expensive as a season ticket or more.

I dont care who has the rights to matches - what really annoyed me this season is that not even the CL highlights were available on free TV. I think, as a very minimum, highlights of a countries own teams should be available - with maybe just the goals from other games.
