Ed offers Pogba 500k a week

Reports (starting with the Mail) coming out that Ed will offer Pogba 500k a week contract to change his mind and stay at United. This is not just due to his exploits on the field but his commercial presence off it. Ole, while he would like to build his team around Pogba, wouldn't want to keep a player whose heart lies elsewhere.

If those reports are true, it's a fracking joke. Sell for £150m. Get in 2-3 players to replace him. If he doesn't want to be here, best rid. He isn't Ronaldo. He's replaceable.

Our recruitment in Midfield has also suffered due to his signing as we have been trying to get players (Matic, Fred) in who can help get the best out of him.

Interesting, United holding out for £150m an a player they paid approx. £90m for.

They are willing to pay him £75m+ over the next 3 years and then let him walk away for free. That's would make an outlay of more than £200m including agents fees and 2 years salary already paid.

Sell him now and get rid of a disruptive influence in the dressing room.

I hope he stays

So much for the 25% drop in wage for last season's failures

Way to go Ed

Another highlight for Ed.

Offering 500k to a player who publicly has said he thinks its time to leave the Club, swans about on the pitch like a ponce and has downed tools twice in the last year

At least Sanchez wanted to come.

is he worth it from a footballing and marketing perspective, 100%.

..................

Is he though. Ronaldo and Beckham for example I can understand.

Not sure how much Pogba brings in for us marketing wise.

Hopefully someone can clear up my ignorance in this.

Whatever about his motivation for signing Sanchez's contract appeared to negatively disturb the whole salary pecking order in the dressing room.

As usual Ed doesn't appear to have learned anything at all if this latest report is correct

Further to this, I'd love to know how much money all this marketing stuff that people talk about bring into the club. If we're talking about marketing the brand ie. the club then how in the world is somebody who is lazy, strolls around the pitch, publicly states he wants to leave, a good positive marketing tool?

The whole marketing thing is a mystery when it comes to pogba.

When I was growing up the good and the great football players primarily inspired you to go outside and play the game. Buying shirts to me smacks mostly of a fashion statement and it is questionable if its influenced by what actually happens on the pitch.

The sales of shirts, at least the majority of the sales, go to the shirt sponsor, surely? Which I suppose in turn increases the amount the club can demand from the sponsor. Perhaps that's what people are talking about? Although, I don't see how a global brand like Manchester United would demand any less from a sponsor because Paul Pogba isn't at the club.

global brand in the Euromick....

Not just shirt sales (majority goes to Adidas, but I think United also get a small cut), but other things such as brand recognition.

We had Rooney advertising a drink here a few years ago. During the world Cup, Ronaldo was used to advertise a Chinese car(Wey), Neymar a Chinese phone (Oppo Nex), Messi also did an advert (forgot what) and three United players also made adverts, Pogba, Smalling and I forgot their third guy. De Gea or Herrera maybe (each spoke in their native tongue with Chinese subtitles below). Those three all wore United shirts in the adverts.

These players are well known and makes sponsorship deals more likely to happen. Why do a sponsorship with a player when you can get the whole team and have their players appear in your advert. It's why other big clubs are copying Ed's sponsorship strategy.
