He's been our best CB prospect at the club for a while. Just played a season at Villa and done well. They seem to want him back and are back in the PL now.
If we could get De Ligt (we won't) then I'd totally understand the money going on him. However talk of 80m for Maguire and now £60m for Diop is just crazy when we've got a highly rated young CB already at the club. Give him a go I say. We haven't got much to lose either with us being way off the top 2 for next year anyway.
He seems like a confident lad and he's got different skills to Lindelof / Smalling. He might just surprise us.
Wan Bissaka is a no brainer. We don't really have anyone ready and Dalot still doesn't convince me defensively. So this is justified spending for me.
However £80m for Maguire is just insane. Rather go with what we have plus Tuanzebe than spend that amount. Lindelof, Bailly, Smalling, Tuanzebe plus either Jones or Rojo is okay by me as long as other areas of the team are addressed.
I seriously hope we don't fall into the Maguire trap.
Is giving Tuanzebe a chance so terrible

Villa want him for 8 million according to the Mail. Such poor journalism should be made illegal

I think he's got 1 year left on his deal too. Another Woodward masterclass.
Needs signing up and quick..

I'd deffo give him a go ahead of Maguire at that price, but I'm not sure that he is a good match for Victor. Both are ball playing CBs that like to bring the ball out of the back and are good at inrecepting. I always think you need a hard man along side them to smash into the tackles and headers and let them tidy up the pieces. Bruce and Pallister, Stam and Johnson, Rio and Vidic. I just don't see Axel and Victor complimenting each other the same.

I'd also agree with this. It's part of why Tuanzebe & Mings make a good pairing. Funnily enough, I suspect Tuanzebe & Maguire would be a good partnership!

Maybe we have to change the formation then as Martial plus whoever plays right is hardly going to track back much.
.....................
The problems always occur when we have Mata or Lingard in the team because both drift into the middle and leave the right hand side open.
Martial actually doesn't do such a pi$$ poor job on the left hand side, to be fair to him.

It’s an option, though I’d prefer to send him on loan to get regular game time at Villa. He’ll be given an opportunity in pre season so it’s up to him to prove his worth. I wonder what Ole plans for Bailly as well.

Send him on loan with 1 year on his deal to run? He'd have to be signed up first for me before going on loan.

I dunno really, he might be shiiiiiiit and released at the end of the season if he can’t prove himself. Or he does well and comes back after being given a new deal. Pre season is massive for him.

I really don’t know why the club is persisting with the Maguire deal.
He’s not an all round great defender.
And £80 million is taking the pissh asking price valuation.

I like Tuanzebe, but he isn't great in the air. As has been mentioned, much like Lindelof.
Maguire is better in the air. He has his lapses though. He's better attacking corners than defending them.
If Smalling was better with the ball, we'd not be aiming for Maguire.

There is quite a bit of talk today about him leaving on a permanent deal and for as little as £8m too as he's got 1 year left on his deal. However we are supposedly insisting on a buy back clause.
Honest to god. We are the worst ran big club in the world.
