Not sure, think it was more to do with the manager.
To pick a squad with only 1 DM then set up in a way where the DM is key to your game plan is suicidal. Abraham is the best striker of the three, so how he didn't start either game is beyond me. Then to leave Foden out of yesterday's game is ridiculous unless he had a knock (didn't look like it)

Some of the players weren't anywhere good enough though. Saw a lot of people slate Clarke-Salter pre tournament and they were proved right. Tomori was equally bad.
From what I have seen of Choudary he can be reckless with his tackling, and unfortunately he let himself down with the idiotic challenge.
Solanke is not very good, in all honesty, and I don't get the point of Gray being in the squad - despite his wonder goal.
Sessegnon came from a bad season and carried that into this tournament.


From an Arsenal perspective, I don't see how Maitland-Niles wasn't in the squad. He can do the DM role, he can play more advanced, and can fill in the full back roles. Also, Nelson not getting a minute yet is puzzling.
I am sure there are a fair few players from other clubs where fans watched this team and thought how isn't their man in, too.

Got sod all to do with the manager. Those 60m premier league players should be beating Romanian youngsters regardless if a couple of key players aren't starting.

Doesn't matter how much players are allegedly worth, if they are put in a system that doesn't work then they don't have much chance.
Foden could be worth a billion, if Boothroyd leaves him out he cannot do much
Expecting 3 attacking midfielders to become quality defensive players overnight isn't going to work, no matter how much you may value them.

Started watching just before the penalty (good timing). To me it looked like England were a better side going forward, they just made individual errors at the back. The silly penalty, Tomori for the second and Henderson for the third - of those in a game and you’d say you’d blown it and England made all three in a few minutes.

Let us never speak of this again.
