why do most Serie A games look empty?

Not sure they all do..... The obvious ones are both Milan teams and Napoli as they play in Huge stadiums. Juve did a fantastic job rebuilding the Dele Alphi (that used to be vast too)..... Went there last season.... only about 45K but awesome atmosphere

Most of the current top stadiums in Europe are in various states of disrepair.
The Bernabeu is due to undergo massive improvements starting this year, The Nou Camp is not in great condition either.

I

Even Old Trafford is now out of date in terms of facilities, compared to places like the Emirates and our new ground. United (and Liverpool) are unable to have giant screens in their grounds, so will be unable to VAR incidents etc going forward.

Goodison Park is near the end of its life, as are iconic grounds like Villa Park.
I am not counting the OS, mainly because it is not a football stadium.

The San Siro was built originally in 1926, and has many renovations since then but in reality it is not in great condition, hence the new stadium planning. Remember it is home to both AC Milan and Inter Milan, so costs will be met by both clubs.

I was in South America 3 years ago and visited Bombonera, Boca Juniors ground, it is an amazing experience but also way past it’s best in terms of decor and facilities.

I read a long time ago it was a devil of a job putting in a decent playing surface because there was never enough light or air getting in to the stadium. It’s an iconic stadium but very ramshackle these days.

Brings back memories of watching Football Italia on Sunday.
