Tigers for sale

No, you've not accidentally stumbled onto the dark web.

This is about the news today that the Leicester Tigers have been put up for sale for £60m, or approximately one Mahrez. I've already seen plenty of calls from BBC local radio personalities (both football and rugby focussed), others in the media and some Tigers fans for Top and family to come along and buy the club.

In a way we should be rather happy about this, that people are looking at our owners and saying "we fancy a bit of that too". I can't see that happening myself - I don't think rugby has ever been a sport they're interested in, and I can think of little reason for them to get involved other than pity or charity. I should also add that, at this point at least, there are absolutely no signs that they intend to step in and the reporting has only been one of some people saying "I wish they would".

It's difficult to work out what would happen if they did launch a takeover. The Tigers are traditionally a very different prospect, with a sense of fan ownership rather than allowing an owner/director to get on with things quietly and privately as the Srivaddhanaprabhas do. It would also mean that time would be spread between both the football club and the rugby club, as well as Leuven and any other sporting interests. And that's before we even get to the main business of King Power. Would a ground share work? It would be a financially prudent option, although I can't image either side being happy about that, given all our decoration and seating is set up for the football and rugby takes far more of a toll on the pitch.

I do want the Tigers to be successful. I've never believed that there's direct competition between the two sports within the city, more that it's just a different cultural option. I would like all of the football, rugby, cricket, basketball, ladies hockey team and snooker to all be renowned within the city. But I can't see a potential teaming up between Leicesters City and Tigers to be a good or productive idea.

As a rugby union fan it would be great if the Tigers could be bought by your owners. It is a club with a great history and succes in the past.

Should we buy Grace road also or let David Gower get it?

The reality of this article is a big disappointment from the promise of its title.

I’m happy for Top & co. to focus on LCFC, although it would be good to see Tigers at the top once more. They seem to have fallen in recent years and hopefully they will get investment from somebody with deep pockets who is passionate about Rugby Union.

Too and Co are ours. I don’t want to see their focus diverted anywhere that will distract them from our club.

However I wish the tigers success and hope they find equally amazing owners for their club.

Up the City/Tiiiiiiiiigers 👍
