What if...?

There's been quite a bit of negativity on this board recently and, in truth, I can't say that it is a surprise. However, to turn that around, I'm going to try and look at some positives and say:

What if...

DDG rediscovers his very best form

AWB comes in and improves the right side of our defence immediately

Between Lindelof, Smalling and Bailly (his early United form) we settle on a solid CB partnership

Shaw continues his steady form at LB

McTominay continues to develop alongside a Fred showing why he's a £50m player giving us a solid and hard working midfield base

Pogba cuts out all the nonsense and gives it 100% and is at his creative best

James hits the ground running (literally!) and gives us (in tandem with AWB) a much bigger threat from the right side

Rashford matures and concentrates on occuping defenders and causing them endless problems with his pace and movement.

Martial comes back with something to prove and pins down the left side of attack.

Add to that the squad options with Mata, Lingard, Pereira, Matic, Lukaku, Sanchez and the youngsters etc.

Now I know that is a lof of what ifs! However, for me, if we can solidify the defence, work very hard in midfield, and offer a threat from both flanks then we should be much better next season. I also know it's incredibly unlikely every one of these things will happen but you never know. Well that's the attitude I'm going to take going into the new season anyway!

*Toni Kroos even. Toni and k(c)ross never go together when United are concerned!

Your midfield has two problems.

The midfield at the moment is very slow with their passing.
They don't move or press quickly because they lack the stamina. Pogba who doesnt track runners when he has to defend.

You could do with a deep lying play maker in the mould of Xabi Alonso.

Compared to your midfield they are very lethargic. I think your midfield though does benefit from much better movement in front so the pass can be made quicker.

I mentioned Carrick above as a type of player we should go for re: your Alonso comment and a player with the quality they had would be more than welcome.

Diafol, I'm with you on this. We have plenty of good players, get the balance right, everybody wanting to play, put the effort in, and we can definitely make top 4.
There's too much negativety.

Just going for top 4 isn't really good enough but it's where we're at at the moment isn't it. Gradual improvements each season would do me now.

Rabiot said we’d made an approach for him. It looks like he’ll be going to Juve, but at least we are targeting that type of player. Having Carrick on the coaching staff ahould actually encourage Ole to look for a player with a similar skillset - though James Garner is actually that player in the squad already.

James better hit the ground running Diafol, your reputation is riding on him.

He will. Don't you worry!

Barca we win, I think most expect him to be a sub and come on late in games where his pace will cause problems.

As he can play in any of the forward 3 positions, he'd be able to come on for any of them.
