Alexis

Been having a pretty decent Copa for Chile. A couple of goals and has had a pretty high work rate in all his games so far. Looks very fit. Scored the last pen yesterday.

Not been world class but has been well above average. 7/10 in his games so far.

Any hope of him turning around his united career?

I think some of the comments made by his coach at Chile rings true. He loves playing for his country. He is happy when he is playing for them. He has a good relationship with everyone there. They also have a good understanding and known how to use him. It's why he has played better.

He doesn't have that here.

Have a pal at work how's Chilean and United fan... Before the tournament all our hopes were that Alexis would have a great tournament and some mugs in China would get fooled by this and offer us a way out of this mess.

His performances so far lend themselves to this possibility (if slim). Should nothing materialize though, I think a committed and fully fit Alexis might still have something to offer... Nothing like the player of old but maybe over-the-hill-Rooney type contributions . In fairness to him, he's had a really bad time with injuries since he joined...

That's definitely a better outcome than him sitting on his harris for the next 3 seasons, while milking us of 60M...

He has been finished for ages, a couple of one off games in a tournament doesn’t change anything. He’s always played well for Chile anyway. It’s criminal that he still plays for this club.

How exactly do you have a couple of one offs ?

My Colombian friend said he was the worst player on the pitch the other day. He scored the winning penalty in the shootout, not sure if that means much?

He's not up to it anymore... And his whining about needing to play etc is balls too, he's been dire

He's not at PL level anymore. He's a player - much like Rooney - that burst onto the scene young and has played with an all-action, 100mph game the whole time.

He was a top player - great technical skill combined with pace to burn and tenacity. A proper street fighter to match his talent. But that can't go on forever and the decline in his abilities will be sooner than players with a less intense style.

We're not going to see a resurgence in Sanchez wearing a United shirt.

He needs to reinvent himself as Scholes did, Pirlo and others have done.

Hard to argue with that. Which is exactly what a few of the know it alls did with me when I pointed out his Arsenal form at the time we signed him.
