United in for Dani Olmo

MANCHESTER UNITED have launched a £36million bid Dinamo Zagreb's Spanish winger Dani Olmo, according to reports.

The 21-year-old was in sensational form last season and was crowned Croatia's Player of the Season.

He scored 12 times and assisted another nine while continuing his fine form at the European Under-21 championships this summer.

Olmo scored in the final as Spain ran out 2-1 winners against Germany and was crowned man of the match in the process.

And now boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made his move before Europe's top clubs scramble for his signature.

Reports in Croatia claim that the Norwegian manager has made a £36m bid which will make him the club's most expensive player ever.

Zagreb have a history of producing top talent including Luka Modric and Mario Mandzukic.

Olmo made the brave decision to leave the Barcelona academy five years ago because he thought his progress would be better suited elsewhere.

Solskjaer wants another attacking player this summer following the arrival of Dan James from Swansea.

He is looking towards younger, hungrier players to bolster his squad and Olmo fits the bill.

I know that it is The Sun, but the player has actually responded to the speculation that we are in for him, so could be something in it:

When asked about the rumours linking him to with United and Barca the youngster issued one main demand.

“Very simple – [I want] a club where I will play," he told Croatian publication T-Portal.

“Because I am still young and for me it is most important that I have minutes."

Olmo revealed he isn’t aware of the speculation currently surrounding him and insisted any transfer negotiations are being dealt with by his agent and father.

“Honestly, I know absolutely nothing about it," he said.

“It’s for my manager Andy Bara and my dad.

“However, I’m not burdened by this."

I understand that he can play as an AM or on either wing. Could it be that he is seen as a cheaper alternative to Sancho? We have got a lot of work to do on the squad and if we can get him at about half the price Sancho would cost, it would free up cash for another player elsewhere.

Looks good, but could be another Depay or could be a success. Who knows. Considering the market and at the quoted price he is well worth the risk. Players from the Croatian league tend to transition well to the PL.

Although I'd expect him if signed, to get more time to adapt than depay did, looking at how depay pushed on last season

I watched that final and he was very exciting. Never heard of him beforehand though so basing it off one game is not fair.

Reading up on him though he does sound like a player. Probably a player some big clubs might want but can't guarantee him minutes. Whereas we most certainly can on the right. We don't really have anyone.

I'm totally okay with signing younger players and being patient. Just want to see some attacking football.

What about FM?

We could get Jim Lawlor to do a scout report on him.

Croatia seems like an odd choice, was there a reason he went there rather than a ‘better’ league? Seems like the move has been good for him, just rare to hear a player with such potential leave for that sort of club/country?

He was part of La Masia, but moved there due to lack of chances, said he wanted to gain experience elsewhere and ended up there somehow

I’ve heard La Masia is a bit of a mess at the moment and being run terribly but still, you’d think another Spanish club would be interested, if not someone from the PL, Serie A, Bundesliga or Ligue 1. Croatia just sounds quite an unusual move for a talented kid from Barcelona, good for him for taking that choice as it seems to be working.
