Ross McCrorie

Joined Portsmouth on loan with an option to buy

What a bizarre transfer for someone who was being widely touted as a Rangers mainstay for years and probably a future captain.

He was always very good in midfield against Celtic.

Happy with that move from our POV must admit.

McCrorie has potential but he is kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment.

Currently his best position is a destructive centre mid sitting just in front of the back four. The need for a player like that is limited to maybe ten games tops domestically.

He isn’t creative enough the rest of the time to justify his place against your Hamiltons, StMirrens etc.

Given the number of midfielders we now have it’s likely he would have played less than last season.

I know some people behind the scenes see him as a CB long term.

Like others have said - a loan deal is probably the right thing for him.

If Portsmouth have an option to buy it better not be for less than £3m and have a hefty sell in clause included.

There is no sell clause, Portsmouth will get 1st opportunity if rangers decide to sell, other than that, it’s just a 1 year loan

This indeed was the pesky fact that I tried to convey yesterday...Sometimes I think that I am just wasted on here.. .............Other times I'mm actually sober

Perhaps SG is impressed with Docherty and feels McCrorie can benefit from a season on loan like he has?

If he's going to get 40/50 games for Portsmouth he'll need to stay for about 3 years anyway
