Olivier Ntcham insists leaving Celtic would be best for his development after admitting he was disappointed at not being allowed to join Porto.

The French midfielder was the subject of bids from the Portuguese giants last summer but they failed to meet Celtic's asking price.

And Ntcham insists he needs to leave Glasgow for the good of his game because he is not being challenged enough in the Scottish game.

Ntcham has been on international duty with France U21s at the European Championships and has continued to be checked on by Marseille.

The move looks unlikely due to the Ligue 1 club's Financial FairPlay issues but it hasn't stopped Ntcham hinting that he wants the move.

Speaking to French outlet L'equipe, he said: "Celtic has given me a lot, but it's the best solution for my development. We can do as many matches as we want but, with all due respect for my opponents, if the level in front is not high, you do not progress.

"I was really disappointed not to have gone to Porto last summer.

"What could be the perfect stage for me? A big championship: Germany, France, Spain - coming back to France would be something very, very good.
