Sorry LIW but you've got a bad case of sour grapes. When you're that much better than the rest of the opposition, you're entitled. What the USA team had was something called professionalism. They're supremely fit, mentally and tactically prepared and every player turns up on the day – all the things England aren't.

No bad grapes at all.

Really enjoyed their football.

That’s one of the cool parts of the women’s game, no cynicism!

When last did we see a men’s WC semi or final with such free flowing soccer as we saw this last week?

Yes, the skill Level is lower but the football itself is more enjoyable!

Truth is - women's football has had many more years to develop in the USA. it's become more like the men's game. But they're playing against many teams that still want to be nice and fair.

I've enjoyed watching the women's world cup, but lots more bad elements than four years ago in Canada. I'm talking diving, time-wasting, players trying to get other players booked etc.

What annoys me is the hypocrisy of PC BBC pundits and equality campaigners who want a lot more money pumped in to it. Yet we all know obscene amounts of money have brought so many bad things to the men's game in the last 30-40 years.

...and? You think the mens seniors would get hammered like that? Training game or not, it still happened! You think Tyson Fury gets bullied in Sparring by a schoolkid amateur? The USA womens team would not get into the lowest league pro football.

Bit of a strange debate this. Men are bigger faster, stronger. Women’s top level sport generally equates to teenage boys level. I was a nationally ranked squash player when i was a kid... played a game against a world top 10 woman when i was 15 i think. There was nothing in it.

No chance the US women’s team would compete against any professional man’s team. It’s a physical mismatch. Doesn’t diminish them in any way... they are the best of their gender. The women’s game is improving and will continue to do so.

I thought overall it was good to watch. Some diving, though nowhere near as much as watching a blokes match. I was actually surprised how good they are.

Spot on about the physical mismatch stuff. I tried to watch it as almost a different sport. That doesn't mean to diminish the entertainment or the skill they had, I've been a bit surprised I have to admit.

I'd not pay to go watch though.

Yeh, I thought some of the skill levels were really good. Bit erratic maybe, not sure about the defensive marking etc, but made for decent games.

My Mrs made a valid point (first time for everything). They are smaller, slower, weaker with respect to men... but they play on a full size pitch. It’s going to make for extra space and time on the ball. Maybe accounts for some of the defensive marking etc i’m referring to....
