At the end of the day Jose didn't rate Herrera too much, despite him being our poty, before we signed Matic, so the club didn't make too much effort to keep him. By the time Jose left and Ole came in Herrera had already been approached by PSG and they had made him a very attractive offer. I don't really blame Ed or the club too much on this one. Jose just didn't fancy him and the timings were off in terms of getting him to sign a new contract after Jose had left. One of those things.

Ed and Jose, between them, well messed up with Herrera.

VC, true but he was getting dropped for poor form as well. Ultimately Herrera just isn’t that good. It’s why he struggled to hold down a place under LVG and Mourinho. There’s an agument to be made that those managers were wrong on that, and it holds a lot of merit, but if he was as good as some of our fans would have you believe it wouldn’t have been a conversation as he’s have been indispensible but he wasn’t.

Ultimately Herrera just isn’t that good.

We will have to disagree on that one. I would have him as our DM over Matic any day of the year. Jose screwed up there.

So would I, but that’s more to do with Matic being pretty crap rather than Herrera being that good.

Purely as a footballer he shouldnt be that difficult to replace. But IMO he was the only obvious leader in that side last season. That'll be the bigger issue

Whilst I don't think Herrera was great, he was certainly one of our best midfielders who had the right mentality for the club.
