https://www.arsenal.com/news/club-statement-laurent-koscielny

What is going on at this club?

Seems he wants to leave.

Club captain has the mentality that he can act like an upstart and embarrass the club. Where is the discipline at Arsenal? Emery needs to exert his authority here and make an example of Kos so that other players, especially youngsters, understand who’s in charge and what happens if you step out of line.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep....that will help 🙄
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course it will help. A manager needs to command the respect of his players. You don’t get that by letting people step out of line and get away with murder. Kos is close to being expendable due to his age, injuries and contract situation(?), so make an example of him, don’t give him what he wants, make him see out next season in the reserves - at least til January, then fack him off with no fanfare. If Emery wants to start a new era he needs to eliminate the culture of pansieness and start laying down the facking law with an iron fist.

Bollox.

Make an example of our best defender and club captain ffs. More disarray in the locker room is what Arsenal can't afford and we need to solve that problem adequately right before the saison starts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Are you dumb? He’s finished as a top level defender and HE is the one causing disarray. He’s supposed to be the facking club captain. Making an example of him is an opportunity to set a precedent moving forward, unless Emery wants all his players to treat him like a whoopsie whenever they can’t get their own way.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Understand what you're saying, Ace, and had Wenger still been in charge (and he not been such a push over) this might've been the thing to do.

However with Emery still trying to wedge his feet under the table, disciplining Koscielny could make things even trickier for him in the dressing room.

Best thing for all concerned is just to release him as quickly as possible and sign a decent CB who can play two games in the row without breaking down for three months

If Kos is popular in the dressing room (no idea either way) then that's probably a really pragmatic solution. Arsenal could get a nominal fee and say it's undisclosed, Kos gets the move he wants.

It's still a crappy way to bring your 9 year career at a club to an end.

All that time was worth it to come up with this level of genius in response

As a rival fan I should be laughing at this, but the lack of professionalism from him annoys me too. Fancy being an experienced captain with 1 year left on your contract and you do this!

Easier said that done when you have so many holes to plug already and not much money to do it with.
