Definitely have seen a lot of passion from him over the years for Arsenal, both defensively and offensively (usually heading in a corner when we desperately needed a goal).

Shame for it to end like this but I doubt he would react this way without a good reason to, the club are clearly being pretty (untish as well.

Nah, I am not a fan of making strikers captains, the best captains tend to be CB's or if not a CB a CM in my opinion, allows them to have good oversight of the whole game ahead of them and keep things solid in the middle.

The skipper's position has become more of an emeritus position in recent years. A symbolic title offered to the oldest man on our books.

So.......Monreal?

I think it's time for a fresh start and to build for the future.

You'd think so.

We're almost 2 weeks past his quoted contract expiry date and the club shop is still marketing his No.18 shirt.

He must be in the process of working out a short term extension with the club.

We need someone who will play every game, Monreal will be on bench 90% of time if he stays

We'd also need someone whose position wouldn't be subject to day-to-day player rotation or repeated substitutions. So I guess not a striker or attacking player.

I personally wouldn't mind Sokratis. Too bad he's a yellow card magnet.
