Crouch Retires

Crouch has announced his retirement

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48964162

What are your best memories of him?

I think for everyone one would have to be the famous 'what would you be if you weren't a footballer' 'a virgin' interview

Im sure us pool and spurs fans can get along on this thread.

Who was the best though?

Crouch or Robbie (boyhood club) Keane?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Robbie Keane for sure.

Always liked Crouch, good luck to him, has had a very good career
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Both average mid table players - probably why you rate them

Really average Championship quality player who made the best of what little ability he had. Wouldn't get anywhere near the Spurs and Pool sides of today. Olivier Giroud who is a similar type is twice the player he ever was.

Decent self deprecating bloke though who is probably well aware of how fortunate he's been.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

bit of a harsh summary Dan

He was clearly a good enough prem player at his best. Lucky to have got in the sides of Liverpool & Spurs though. Stoke, Southampton and Villa were about his level

His podcast is good fun.

He must have ate some amount of bananas and porridge to last as long as he has.

Yeah maybe you're right. Champ player is a tad harsh. Decent enough player who, as you say, found his level with low to mid table prem sides

Giroud won the WC, French title, Europa Cup 4 FACs etc, 35 odd golas for France and scored at a greater rate than Crouch. So yeah Crouch is clearly so much better

Giroud played in better teams than Crouch though, which is even more important for that type of striker.

Crouch was never a prolific scorer for us but he could cause good teams problems I was a fan of his. He was underrated with the ball at his feet and could bring his team mates into the game. He had plenty of detractors, but deserves respect for pulling that Mrs.of his.
