Ole on Tuanzebe

The Norwegian boss also spoke about his selection issues in central defence.

United are keen to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester, although the two clubs are still apart in their valuation of the 26-year-old England international.

They already have five senior centre-backs - Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo - at the club on contracts that could run to at least 2022. In addition, Axel Tuanzebe has impressed in pre-season after playing a key role in Aston Villa's return to the Premier League while on loan last term.

"Axel has a great chance of staying here and playing," said Solskjaer. "He has proved he can play at that level and has come back strong and focused.

"Of course there is a limit of players. Whoever performs will be part of the team and whoever doesn't has to fight to get back in - but he's one of the exciting players I can't wait to see more of."

=====================================

I am really hoping that Axel can continue to impress in preseason and convince Ole that he doesn't need to splash all that money on HM. I'd much rather we spent that money elsewhere, or on a different CB.

Tuanzebe holds the world record for fastest completed game of Hungry Hungry Hippos, that's got to count for something? or at least add a few zeros on his fee if we end up getting rid.

Surprised Ed hasn't bagged a sponsorship deal.

Ole’s been banging on about young and hungry players as well...

Thinking about Shaw?

I like Jones, always have. He's not great but he is trier, which is more than some. And he's not lacking in talent. It's injuries that have ruined his career;

Jones is our best defender when we play a high line imo. We just haven't done that much against top opposition for him to prove so.

When we play smaller sides he usually dominated his striker and it means the ball is won back quickly.

He probably saw more than you hippo. He was not bad at spotting a footballer, not perfect but not bad, verging on bloody good.

If Jones actually stayed fit he definitely had the potential to be a very good centre half if he played consistently. I do also like his commitment to the cause, although it does lead to some unorthodox defending which has contributed to his injuries.

Unfortunately it has been 8 seasons plagued by injuries which blunted his development. When he has shown a bit of form he chucks in a calamitous mistake.

Its time to move him on sadly.

Yes, I think that if TFM does stay then it could well be as a utility player.

I agree with what you say regarding composure on the ball. I think that he would be able to get about and put pressure on the ball in the DM role and win it back. But it is what he then does with the ball. Axel looks more composed and also appears to have a better range of passing. From the bits I have seen of him at Villa, his distribution was pretty good.

D'ya know what? I decided to go back and watch a bunch of clips of Fosu-Mensah this evening. I think not having watched him now for quite some time my judgement was a bit clouded.

He's actually quite decent on the ball and rapid as hell. I hope he gets a loan and actually gets a bit of a run - maybe even in midfield because he's clearly a talent. Injuries have held him back and he seemed out of favour at Fulham for some reason.

I hope we don't sell him too soon because he's shown enough in a United shirt that he's a talent, got call ups to the Dutch national team and there's actually a few stand-out performances during those loans despite his Fulham stint not going so well.

Happy for him to get a run in the side as spending 80 million on a donkey is madness
