Philips contract

Philips has rejected first contract offer put to him, it appears due to wages, he wants parity with Casilla and Bamford who are said to be on around 40k per week, Philips said to be on 10k per week.

Its very hard for the club mentally to get their head around increasing someone wages fourfold, but they need to look at the value he adds to the team and reward him according to that.

Additionally, they need to stop paying such stupidly high wages for this division in the first place as now every player going into contract talks will want a massive wage hike. Who else have we got in that situation, Roofe, Klich and BPF. Assuming they give pay rises to Philips, Roofe and Klich to get them on parity with Bamford and Casilla, that suddenly costs us another 4.6 mill per year.

The signings on Bamford and Casilla could end up having far reaching consequences for trying to retain key players.

I’d be staggered if bamford is on that.

Kiko is a very different situation. He agreed to cancel an existing contract, we ‘saved’ (something it would be nice if he did occasionally) on a transfer fee and got rolled over on the wages. Reality was the ‘transfer fee’ budget went to him in wages.

These sort of things are a fact of life. Phillips deserves a good contract for this division, with promotion upsides and a release clause if we don’t go up this year.

If he’s not happy, sell him or keep him here kicking and screaming against his will and revisit in a year’s time.

You should never bring in a player who is on much more than virtually all the rest, especially in this league - asking for trouble.

Phillip's, or his agent just asking - is the goalkeeper or Bamford worth much more than me in terms of what I bring to the team?

Philip would struggle in prem.

Pace would kill him, like it did today

Spot on LIW
At last some sense.
KP doesn’t have enough in his game, limited.

Promotion

Has much has I don’t want to sell him, I’ve a nagging feeling, this is last chance, we’d ever get to get decent money for him.

It’s very important to sell players at the right time for the right price.
Our club are useless at doing that.

So as well as being useless, Bamford and Kiko have blown our wage structure apart. Everyone will be wanting parity with them. Shrewd bit of business bring those 2 in.

If Spurs want Philips and are prepared to pay 20million You have to accept that. KP is not in the same league or a match winner like Jack Grealish and who Villa rejected a 30milion offer.
We could strengthen the side significantly with 20 million and I would wish KP well and not harbour any bad feeling if he ends up leaving.

Don’t think any club will pay £20 million even in today’s crazy market.
He’s certainly not worth it IMO.

Kiko's wages are ridiculous for us. Bamford? Who the hell valued him at £10m? And then to pay him north of £30k? Complete and now proven donkey! Useless in the air and couldn't hit a barn door from two yards. No wonder Philips is wanting a big pay rise.
