Value?

Is Maguire worth more than De Ligt

He has Premier League experience and would be playing with Stones and Walker so should be able to fit in quite well. Would benefit England ( Maybe we should have gone for Trippier at that price but he would probably be thought of as to old for our developing team) but not so sure it would give Pep the flexibility that De Ligt would have done.

Or do we let United buy him and hope he turns out like Fred and Sanchez?

Not sure about you Lee, but if I was a millionaire I still wouldn't just pay whatever price a shop chucks at me for things.

Yep totally agree, unfortunately its that fine balance between a player bringing you a trophy or not and if your willing to hold out. Probably the best value for money was Liverpool buying Van Dijk but a pre season injury could have ruined all that. Buying any player is a risk and its a case of weighing up the pros and cons

Yeah your only as good as the sum of your parts though. What klopp has done at liverpool is years of hard work. VVD is a great player, but also came with the emergence of TAA, Robertson becoming a world class full back and a record signing of a keeper (till chelsea broke it a week later).

Maguire will be a good signing but won't be the difference between a trophy or not imo.

He cant play in a high line

Actually, Maguire wants to play in a high line. But he needs someone alongside him who can read the game and mop up when the ball goes over his head.

It's why he's never formed a decent partnership with Wes Morgan. He prefers a deep line and they end up out of kilter.

With the money in the EPL, teams simply do not have to sell their best players to make ends meet. They are therefore very unwilling sellers so buyers have to pay more to entice you to sell something you dont want to lose.

Ajax almost recognise that their top players will move and therefore are more realistic about value, are more willing sellers, and £67m is probably more than they get in TV money

I like Maguire but he certainly has his limitations and needs the right partner alongside him and DM in front

It's 2019 so I think Maguire is definitely a £60m defender.

Throw in the premium of selling to another English club and the fact that Leicester don't need to sell and £90m becomes a justifiable fee.

I also believe that one decent season at United and his value increase anyway.

But that's often how a CB partnership works. An 'aggressor' who attacks the ball and a reader to mops up behind and usually has a bit more pace - or at least this was the traditional makeup. Less aggression needed or allow these days
