Iām not going to start making predictions about what might happen on opening day or across the season.
But what an absolute joy to watch that was.
A high energy, high press for ninety minutes, winning the ball time after time after time in their defensive third. Hungry in possession, tidy in tight areas against a packed defence, and lightning quick in the transition on the counter. Fantastic movement, particularly from James and Lingard first half and Greenwood and Chong second half.
Two different setups and approaches looked dangerous, Pogba grinning and imperious, AWB absolutely monstrous.
There were cons agreed on on the match thread: defending set pieces, wasting our own and aerial balls into the box, primarily.
But what a joy it was to watch us play like a proper United team - with intent, pace and determination.

Yeah, not sure about his strength quite yet, but the confidence is there and the raw talent.
Still think there’s a chance he might go out on loan this season at some point. But he already looks more dangerous than (if maybe not as dependable as) Sanchez did all last season.

Lingard will do well to stay in the XI with how Greenwood, Gomes and Chong are developing.
We need to get Gomes signed to a contract ASAP before we have another Pogba on our hands.

BUT cm is still a massive concern imo even if we keep pogba. We need to play with a midfield 3.
a starting 11/backup cm is currently

and I have zero confidence in this combo
introduce a top cdm like weigl and i will be optimistic:

The diamond is looking good to me with Mata or Lingard in behind split strikers.
Although I thought we also looked excellent with the 4-2-3-1 first half.
Conte’s tactics were ridiculous though. They gave us far, far too much time and space first half. Matic and Pogba really enjoyed that far too much.

I'd start Gomes over both in that role, Greenwood is hogging the headlines but we have another class act in Angel.

Didn't get much of a run out today, but he was excellent against Leeds.
It was quite hilarious today watching Chong and Greenwood repeatedly skin the likes of Skriniar. All he could do eventually was hack Chong down, because he was just getting absolutely roasted.

Chong got busted because Greenwood made Skriniar look like Titus Bramble with that turn a few minutes before... Beautiful
