Oh, and Phil Hay will resurface at The Athletic.

Are they asking us to pay them that to take him off our hands Stoopo? BPF is nowhere near worth £5m, Premier League quality he isn't.

If you ship out enough homegrown players, eventually an Orta choice has to play....

You are aware that Orta has signed a lot of homegrown players right?

If Orta has signed them they’re not homegrown.

We sold Jack Clarke because we got offered a lot of money.

Which other 'homegrown' players has Victor Orta personally held back?

Maybe you haven’t read the thread gelderd the talk is of BPF going.

The point, which I guess you’re not getting is this, any person making decisions needs to justify those decisions. Orta’s decisions to bring in some 20 or so players 2 years ago and only about 4 remaining at club is no endorsement of good decision making.

Over that time a number of homegrown players ie not Orta signings have excelled at the expense of Orta signings, BOF ahead of Felix abd lonergan for example. Philips ahead of Ideguchi and Forshaw, Roofe ahead of bamford etc etc

Oat some point, to justify himself, Orta’s signjngs need to start making meaningful contributions to the first team and one way to do that is to get rid of homegrown players to allow Orta’s choices to play. You see this all the time in companies with managers bringing in their own people to replace existing employees to justify the value they bring to company.

The throughput of yoofs in the U23s is a concern. But they're a gamble for the most part, at any club.

If we don't have squillions to splash on players then it's a way of trying to develop a squad I suppose. If the odd one comes through and becomes a superstar, they could potentially offset all the outlays. Not saying I believe that will happen, just trying to apply some logic which maybe the motive behind it all.

Didn't think Roofe was homegrown as such, bought for a lot from Oxford?

There wont be any spilt milk over BPF leaving, I'd happily have Miazek as back up for Kiko or sign another keeper.

The scattergun approach 2 years ago was to fill the academy which had been decimated by Cellino.

Most of these haven't worked, but no more so than every other academy in the world.

Ill bet more players from our u23's made appearances or debuts last season than most sides in the country. And the same will happen this season, a lot of them signed by Orta.

None of this will be at the expense of local homegrown players because if they are good enough they will play, see Clarke and Shackleton.

Vof, homegrown here means already existing at the club.

Its pretty damning that so far the ones to have come through and made an impact were BPF not Felix, wiedewald or Blackman (and let’s face it Blackman was expected to take number 1 but bpf took it and we were too old thevtable for months.clarke ahead if any other U23s that Orta signed, Shackleton ahead of any other U23 that Orta signed.

One hopes this will change at some point and that this season we see 1 or 2 make an impact, but it’s a big step up from U23s to full squad, a step too far fir a lot of foreign kids especially being brought in.
