United played out a comfortable Betfred league cup win against the Blue Brazil on Friday night to put the team within touching distance of the next round. A win against East Fife tomorrow night should guarantee United a minimum of one of the best runner up places.
I never made the game on Friday night due to other commitments, which was disappointing especially since United were so comfortable in their victory. It was also disappointing as I didn't get to see Adrian Sporle open his account for United, the left back stroking home the opener. I didn't get to see Shankland once again prove what a goal machine he is, with a looping header to double the lead. And I didn't get to see one of the stories of this pre-season, and that's the emergence of Louis Appere, who closed the scoring with another header and the youngster appears to have played his way into the first team reckoning after appearing to be on his way out. Well done to the young man for fighting back after being loaned out to Broughty last season.
A good win then and as said above, we should progress. United currently sit on 7 points after 3 games. Hearts have 5 points after 2 and you would expect them to top the group, but as four 'best runners-up' go through then if we get to 10 we should be comfortably through.
In news away from the game, I'm hearing lots of rumours that United have offered a severance package to Fraser Aird and, perhaps surprisingly, Osman Sow. My sources (one of my mates) tells me that both have been offered three months wages to go but both are holding out for a full years worth of wages. We'll see how that develops.
Anyway, hopefully I'll get to the game on Tuesday and be able to give a more comprehensive report on how United are shaping up before the league campaign begins.

Dundee Utd and Rangers are the same odds to win their respective leagues and shorter odds than European Champions Liverpool are to win their league.

So i guess the bookies don't fancy any of us to win our leagues then?

Rangers 9/4
Dundee Utd 9/4
Liverpool 5/2
Real Madrid 7/4
So longer odds than Real Madrid to win their league and Real Madrid need to overcome Messi and co (probably Neymar). Dundee Utd only have to overcome Dundee.

"Only". Pah. I bet Madrid and Liverpool don't have a defensive record to match the Dees.

The bookies are essentially saying that Dundee are as good as Celtic, and better than Barcelona.

Well obviously we're better than Barcelona.
I'm not sure if you're aware, but we have quite a positive record against them in competitive competition.

We beat AC Milan twice at home in both European Cups. They are a more successful team in Europe than Barcelona so I can see why the bookies think Dundee are slightly better than Barca.

I imagine I'm not the only one who completely forgot about the existence of Fraser Aird.

I genuinely thought he'd left earlier in the summer.
