League Cup Round Up

We are entering the final stages of the league cup group stages and yet again the weekend served up a few twists and turns. A reminder that group winners and the best 4 runners up go through - generally the runners up have needed a minimum of 9 points.

Group A

As mentioned this morning, United and Hearts still look like the top two and both should go through. I can't see East Fife or Stenny causing too many problems.

Group B

The big story here is St Johnstone who are now OUT of the competition after another defeat, this time by runaway leaders Ross County. Forfar have a good chance of also getting out of the group.

Group C

Still a couple of games to go for this one but Hibs should be okay, while Arbroath started strongly.

Group D

A very interesting group. Another goalless draw for Dundee, but another penalty shootout win, keeps them top. The televised game against ICT should decide the group, but Peterhead remain in the hunt.

Group E

Motherwell are top of the group after a couple of wins and may well be the only team to progress from this group.

Group F

Partick (7) and Accies (6) should battle this out with a game left to play.

Group G

Ayr and Livi should battle it out to top this group, with Falkirk falling behind, but the real story in this group is the continued pashness of Berwick Rangers. In their last 11 games Berwick have failed to score and conceded a remarkable 43 goals. It looks a long, hard season for them.

Group H

The cat was put among the pigeons in this group after Edinburgh stunned Dunfermline to take all three points. St Mirren only have four points from three games and are struggling to progress. Pars still lead on 6 points.

James McPake to be sacked by end of September and Gordon Strachan to take over as manager.

Cert.

He has been my choice for a number of years now. I don't know if he'd be up for managing again though. He often sits beside me at games and his wife is made of leather.

Sunshine, sea breeze & salt air on the south coast - bad combination. On the plus side she must make a good wind break?

Ivan, what's the score? Ivan, Ivan what's the score? In danger of finishing 3rd in a 2 team group. But the more obvious danger is missing out one of the best 2nd places. A point for Dundee against Inverness may be enough to send city rivals United packing. You have to wonder what this does for a team's confidence going into the league campaign. Neilson out?

Clever ploy by the mighty Terrors to focus on the league while their city rivals get the distraction of a cup run

didn't need the distraction anyway

Always a solid option in these times

Diddy cup is becoming less acceptable. I’d stick with Miller’s suggestion.

I remember when Heart of Midlothian hired a plane to express their feelings about Robert's style of play. Dundee Utd could hire a cyclist or something to cycle up Tannadice Street? Or write it on a junkie's back and set them on fire. Good way to spread the sentiment
