Lawwell 'Q&A'

At the Celtic Festival.

Wasn't a Q&A more just Gerry McCulloch probing but some of the stuff spoken about was interesting.

Someone sent me it, here's the main talking points:

Strachan doesn't get the credit he deserves, MON left us paying English Premier League wages, that was round about the time the massive gap started in terms of finances, Strachan steadied the ship for us but still delivered success

Said when we signed Bangura and VVD, it comes out as if he signed Bangura and Lenny signed Van Dijk , said it's always the managers choice regarding players he's never decided to sign a player.

Said we cant afford to sign champions league ready players so we need take them to that level, either after 2 years they aren't good enough n we sell them or they are good enough n want to leave, calls it the 2 year conveyor belt.

Spoke highly of Deila, said Celtic were one of a number of clubs wanting him to be part of their coaching staff, said with Rangers liquidating and being allowed to start again in League 2 it gave them a chance to experiment with Deila and ultimately couldn't handle the pressure.

Said all the stuff about Lenny being in a no win situation when he took over from Rodgers, said the fact Lenny took the job under those circumstances showed the measure of Lenny and what the club meant to him

Said Celtic are highly thought of by other European clubs and the European board, said there's a revamp taking place in 2024 and he expects Celtic to be involved in it. The message was 'they want us' and 'we're in a position we have an influence'

He was asked about why we couldn't be like the current Ajax team, he explained they went 4 years without winning anything would we accept that, everyone said Naw

Btw..when Broony is on his game, as he has been a couple of times this season, he's still better than McGinn.

I would only take McGinn over Brown now due to Brown's age, he's good and very hard working, but lacks a wee bit extra i'd be looking for in that position, i'm hopeful Henderson has that and can push on, from what i've seen his vision is on another level, physically he's lacking though which seems to be the norm for our academy products .

Henderson looks like he could be a right good player. I'm all for him getting game time this season. Plenty of matches and frankly it's a bit embarrassing the amount of games Calmac had to play last season. We need to look after him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Aye, McGregor's form dip from about February onwards was noticeable to all, it wasn't just last season, he's been playing non stop for 3 years.

Guys like him and Forrest getting a rest will come down to how well Rangers do this season, if they are racking up the points it's gonna be difficult for Lenny to leave them out and he could end up playing just as much this season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed. I doubt he'll be left out of the starting tea but rest him against lower league teams in cups and get him off the pitch once league games feel safe. We need to cut the minutes on the pitch even if we don't cut the starts....otherwise he'll fade in the key months or pick up an injury.
It's also about having reliable replacements.
See the adebayor rumours have resurfaced....don't think it's likely and not sure I fancy it anyway
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like that rumour to just go away to be honest, too old and too expensive.

If we are after more cover up front we should be looking at young prospect who hasn't made the 25 man squad in one of the mega rich teams that hoard young talent down south, I want someone who's eagar to show the world what he's got, I doubt that's Adebayor's mindset anymore.

He looked the part in that preseason game before he got injured, he surprised me in that game, it's a cliche, but he showed some good feet for a big man and won everything in the air which is refreshing to see from a Celtic striker, even if not much was on target.

He traveled with the squad so he must be fit enough to take some part in the game.

‘Vakoun Issouf Bayo and Eboue Kouassi are again missing, along with Tom Rogic and Kieran Tierney, but winger Marian Shved could also be in line for a debut after shaking off a training ground injury.’

Suppose we’ll see.
