Here’s a statistical breakdown of how Maguire has fared, both defensively and offensively, when measured against some of Europe’s top centrebacks - namely Van Dijk, Laporte, Ramos, Koulibaly, Hummels, Umtiti, Kompany, Pique and De Ligt - since 2016/7.
Note that Hummels, Umtiti and Kompany played fewer than 6,500 minutes. All stats courtesy of Opta.
Defence
Mins played: 8,326 (3rd)
Tackles: 148 (2nd)
Aerial duels: 71% (3rd)
Interceptions: 148 (1st)
Clearances: 469 (2nd)
Errors leading to goals: 1 (3rd)
Obviously, the fact that he has been playing for Leicester, a side that will see him in action more often than Umtiti or Laporte, for example, will have an impact on interceptions and clearances. Regardless, the numbers in each category, minutes considered, are up there with anyone’s.
Attack
Goals: 7 (5th)
Assists: 6 (1st)
Combined: 13 (2nd)
He bests everyone other than goal machine Sergio Ramos here.
Versus United’s other defenders
How he fared last season in the PL compared with Smalling, Jones, Lindelof and Bailly, per 90 minutes.
Aerial duels won: 4.1 (2nd, after Smalling)
Duels won: 6.3 (1st)
Clearances: 5.3 (1st)
Passes: 61 (1st, by a country mile)

he is a good defender and an improvement on what we have got but not by much that it solves our defensive weakness
if we do not get a new cdm and the cbs are as exposed to every attack by oppo as we were last season, it will be a collosal waste of money imo

clearly, but i will settle for any decent cdm at this point

I agree with Julian, which is why I think McT will get plenty of game time as he is a decent cdm.

As it stands I'd expect McT to take Herrera's place in the side rather than Matic

The concern is the lack of pace when you play a high line against top teams.
He was made look shte against below average players like Promes, Depay and other dutch average players.
You could have bought Koulibaly or Tah and would have been better.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is nonsense. Maguire wasn't made to "look like shte" against Holland. Holland were simply the better team overall with their pressing, ball retention and tempo. You seem to be singling Maguire out for no real reason at all. He was at fault for none of their goals, either.

De Ligt was shiyte against England, and has been shiyte in his first couple of Juve (pre season) games.

'For example, Maguire. We talked about him at Burnley before we played against Leicester. In some moments it seems he doesn’t know what’s happening behind him, that’s why he got a red card after five minutes in the match against Burnley.'

His lack of speed (acceleration mainly) and his lack of awareness is an issue. We already heard about Pep highlighting his speed. Here we have Burnley striker Vydra highlights his other weakness. Something Burnley exploited when they played Leicester.
DM should be a priority right now as neither Fred nor Matic are good enough.

You’re trying too hard to find negatives in this signing. A player says another player has a weakness. And then guess what? When the Czech Republic play England they are shiiiit and that weakness isn’t even a thing as Maguire helps keep a clean sheet as England batter them 5-0.
Lots of players have weaknesses but (some of) our fan base are obsessed with ignoring all the good things and thinking that you have to be the perfect, flawless player to be bought for £80 million

These negatives have been widely discussed on here. Other teams target these weaknesses (whether they come off or not is not what we're discussing). To get the best out of him we need to mitigate his weakness. It's why a team as a unit can be more than the sum of its parts. Right now we don't have a DM who can do what we need to be done to protect the defence and allow Maguire to do what he does best.
