What do you think of it so far?

Tentative first half, and although Sadlier played well, he isn't a centre forward who can hold the ball like Marquis. The Gills scored a comedy goal when our centre halves fell over each other, but, beyond than that, there weren't a lot of chances at either end. The first half injury time equaliser by Sadlier, after a wonderful chip by Copps, was a thing of beauty. No goals in the second half, but once Ennis came on to lead the line we were transformed. In my opinion the best players on the pitch were Halliday, Sadlier, Copps, Whiteman and May - with May getting the MoM. Ennis is clearly hugely talented although two passes back went astray causing panic. Baptiste is good positionally, but certainly isn't quick. Sheaf wasn't as assured as he has been in friendlies and Gomes is a work in progress. Promising.

I was beginning to wonder why no one posted anything on the day of the match.

I could not listen to iFollow and the highlights did not really bring out the best of the second half performance, but I am happy to take the word of those who reported. Thank you.

Alfie does seem to still be lacking the final deadly touch, but if he were ever to find it consistently he would be an extremely valuable asset.

Until then it is an encouraging thought that the Laurie Sheffield of the 21st century may well be being lined up at this very moment and only needs to put his name on the contract...

Perhaps I have been seduced into believing what I read about the potential recruits.

Can there really be such talent available at this stage in the window?

DM seems very relaxed re recruitment - he's not going to be "knee-jerked" into recruiting out of panic and that's a good thing. He clearly wants to ensure that we build the right foundations with the right blend of players. Hopefully there are a few gems left out there! 45 games to go.

For the Rochdale game I'd like to see Blair replace Halliday and Ennis for Gomes. Bit more pace and energy and I think the goals and results will come.

Who's going to replace Whiteman then?

Gary Hooper might be a good punt

After the half time break and the reshuffle, Halliday was excellent on a Saturday.
He was second in the L1 stats for successful tackles made and is a far better defender than Blair.
