Haggling Over LoCelso

Can't help thinking that we might have been better off passing on Jack Clarke and using whatever funds we have available to get the guys we really need. No idea just how far apart we are on LoCelso but I'll be pretty annoyed if we end up spunking 40mln combined on Sessegnon & Clarke when that money could have been used to have got GLC in earlier (Granted the Copa America didn't help)

Re Clarke, do we really need him when you think we already have Lamela, Sonny, Moura ? Nobody at Leeds seemed really that bothered about losing him and its not like there was that much interest in him. As for Sessegnon..... Last year was a disaster & all we really know is that he was good in the championship

Was really disappointed with KWP yesterday.... We dont have a decent RB at the club & given Eriksen looking like he'd rather be anywhere than WHL I wonder if we have got our priorities right ???

Agree. KWP looks worse than Trippier.

Any news on Foyth?

I hear mate... I agree re the buyout clause for LoCelso and an not suggesting just paying whatever it takes. But the length of these negotiations does have knock on effect to getting guys up and running. I would just argue that passing on the likes of Clarke & perhaps Sessegnon to get closer to a price acceptable to Betis might be a better short term strategy. For as much as I like investing in youth/ homegrown talent, etc I'm more concerned about beating Villa, esp with Dele, Dier, Foyth all injured and Sonny suspended

I’ll take levy’s long term view over your short term one.

Lo Celso isn’t worth anywhere near what they want. My problem is we should’ve moved on weeks ago to another target and walked away from him.

In the long term possible but I’m not sure the £8m will make or break us.

Spending £88m on player that was sold for £20m two months ago is pure stupidity.

Fans always look for the short term but management look for both.

If Clarke blow up in 3 years times and then costs £60m I guarantee fans like you would be moaning we didn’t take the punt for £8m 3 years earlier

Not Really... My point was that having done nothing in the mkt for 18 months the short term needs are greater than planning for the future. That has been reflected by a drop off in form by some (Dele, Dier), Recurring injuries (Dele, Kane, Lamela, Rose) ageing players (Jan & Toby). At no point am I suggesting paying the buy out but instead allocating cash assign to signing Clarke & Sessegnon might be better used to tempting Betis into a deal (60-65mln) instead of 40-45mln Reported) and getting the player on board quicker ?

Levy is doing both though

Ndombele for now & Clarke for the future.

Lets face it Lo Celso is not worth 70m Euro.

I dont think its a case of us not having the money, just not wanting to pay that amount for someone who could be the next Lamela (decent but not worth the money paid) and 70m is a hell of a lot.

Its an asking price. Can't see Betis turning down say 55m but they're holding out and so are we.

A bit like Sisokko, i think we'll get there in the end and will have paid more than we wanted to because we need players in, but Levy will play it cool until then!
