Is Pochettino as good as we think he is?

I include myself in that. When he first arrived in England, I hadn’t heard of him and felt Adkins had been treated like crap by Southampton and that Pochettino was going be total $hit.

He was fantastic for Southampton, so good that it was only a matter of time before a big premier league team was going to snap him up.

He’s made Tottenham in to a team where we’d be genuinely surprised if they didn’t finish in the top 4. And he’s justifiably got a reputation for giving his academy a chance and improving the players at his disposal. Whether or not that’s out of necessity is (imo) irrelevant.

He’s helped develop a striker, that most accept has a genuine shot at Shearer’s premier league record.

I’m constantly surprised to still hear people say, “there’s nothing obviously special about Harry Kane and he goes missing in the big games."

Really? I think a striker who pretty much guarantees you 25 goals a season at the top level is pretty special.

Back to Poch………………in 2016 I believed he suited United better than Jose. I feared United getting Pochettino far more than I feared them getting Jose.

But Jose pointed something out (probably to deflect criticism from himself) about Pochettino. He’s still yet to win anything. Harsh because Pochettino does not have the funds other managers have been afforded? Or fair comment?

And do you think if Pochettino would flourish at a club where he had more funds? I think we could yet find out at his current club when Spurs have paid off their stadium which they’re predicted to do, far more quickly than other clubs have previously.

I suppose the tester is. If you were in charge of a club with ambitions of being the best and you could bankroll any manager’s wish, would you hire Poch?

Levy for me is a bigger force in Tottenham's success than Poch. Sure, Pochettino has financial restrictions, but Spurs over the last 5 years successfully assembled one of the most valuable teams in the division. Afterall, for years, I've been told no Arsenal player (other than when we had Alexis) would make Tottenham's team. So it's not like Poch is managing Crystal Palace to such heights.

His failure to win a trophy is a big dent on his managerial CV. There are no excuses for some of the Cup competitions Spurs have bottled over the years under him.

Poch does not need any excuses for his Spurs record. He's done wonderfully well.

I know Jose won you trophies and helped you complete the European trophy set, but back in 2016 I genuinely feared you getting Poch more than I feared you getting Jose. In spite of their contrasting CVs.

as good as we think he is....WTF

It may have escaped some people's notice, but Spurs have won precisely one mick cup in ten years....they have zero winning mentality year on year when it comes to the crunch...& Poch must shoulder some of that blame.

I personally would not swap our current success rate and transfer ban for their shiny new stadium and empty trophy cabinet for one second.

There might not be excuses but there are certainly reasons.
