Paper Talk: Man United

Daily Mirror:
- Paulo Dybala is reportedly willing to lower his wage demands in order to secure a move to Manchester United before Thursday's transfer deadline.
- Romelu Lukaku's decision to go AWOL from Manchester United will cost the Belgian almost £400,000.
- United are looking to pick up Eriksen at £50m as no other club has shown interest in signing the Dane this summer and Tottenham could lose him for free at the end of the season.

Daily Mail:
- Long time Man United target Bruno Fernandes has told Sporting Lisbon that he wants to leave the club and has already agreed personal terms with Tottenham.
- David Beckham is reportedly considering making Carlo Ancelotti the first manager of his MLS franchise Inter Miami.
- Manchester City have beaten Manchester United and Liverpool to sign highly-rated 14-year-old Aston Villa midfielder Kane Taylor.

Daily Express :
Manchester United have bid for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele as they continue to search for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku.

MEN:
Tottenham are encouraging Manchester United to bid for Christian Eriksen before Thursday's transfer deadline.

The Sun:
Manchester United are furious with Zinedine Zidane's public courting of Paul Pogba.

Gossip in Italy:
- Inter have restarted negotiating with United over Lukaku and are €5m off the value United will accept.
- Ex Juventus, Tottenham and Swansea striker Llorente could be brought in after the deadline if Lukaku moves to Inter.
----
Any others and I'll update this one. As you can see, some of these gossip have been reported as being over by other outlets (Dybala, for example) are still pushing the stories as if they are still on going.

IMO no other player will come in. We could see Lukaku leave. Hopefully Darmian leaves for his sake more than ours and one other CB.

On the Eriksen front, it seems like 50-60m might get the deal done. Papers saying Poch no longer sees him as part of his plans. If that's true, they'd probably push him out now.

On a side note, I thought we had some dumb posters on ja606, but after seeing a bit of twitter this transfer window... It makes even the most cretinous troll on here seem enlightened and reasonable.

What's Liverpool's plan B?

What's man cities plan B?

What's Barcelona's plan B?

We don't need a plan B, we need a plan a that works and Llorente should be nowhere near that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Liverpool have used two different plan Bs.

Firstly, they’ve switched from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1 with Salah up top and Shaqiri coming into the game in behind, and then they have Origi who they can switch out for Firmino to use as a target man with Van Dijk hitting him with long passes.

One big difference in Liverpool’s results has been Klopp finally admitting that he needs - and developing accordingly - at least one plan B. Until they had one, they were losing out repeatedly against sides who knew how to defend against them (and Firmino in particular) and got it right.

I can’t speak about Barca, but a common criticism of Pep’s Bayern and City sides is that they’ve had no well-practiced plan B.

That doesn’t seem to have hurt his City team too badly, but when you have the players and coaching they have, well, you’re just on a different level to everyone else anyway.

If Ole is set on playing a 4-2-3-1. Then, numbers wise, we dont need another midfielder.

McT, Pogba, Fred, Matic, Pereira.

Like with our CB situation, if we sign another to improve on those mediocre options then we will probably need to shift some on.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Simple fact is our midfield options aren't good enough to play 4231
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Disagree, depends on how they are employed

We can play this way

-----------------McTominay------Matic/Fred

Perreira/Mata/Lingard/Young-------Pogba---------Martial

---------------------Rashford/Greenwood
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Pogba doesn't work as a 10

Matic just can't be in a 2... He doesn't have the energy, pace or mobility to carry the workload

Most teams are playing with a 3 and the top sides intensity would see us overrun.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The one time we were outnumbered in midfield preseason was against Milan. They put three up against our two, and they dominated the centre of the park as we watched our worst preseason performance.

If we go up against any top half side (and probably others) with two in the middle of the park - any two - we’ll be punished hard.

*two in the middle of the park against a midfield three...

A lot riding on the successes of McT, Fred and Perreira, but if we can ease Matic out of the first team more, i think we'll be ok.

I think Perreira could be a more technical Herrera type, a lot seem to have given up on him a bit, but I could see him having a breakthrough season.

I hold out more hope on Pereira coming good than on Fred. I just don’t see a good player hidden inside Fred.

The way I see it we have two very good midfielders in Pogba and McT, one who looks a good squad option in Pereira, and two disasters who we need to upgrade post-haste.

I’d love to see someone of the calibre of Neves come in with Fred shipped out on loan in the next couple of days. With Mandzukic in for Lukaku, that’d be an ideal end to the window for me.

Haven't seen us linked to a single proper centre midfielder though Rosso, unfortunately.

Maybe that Savic fella, for an all rounder, but that doesn't seem to have gone anywhere.

Do you agree that this a new-found flexibility though, GT?

Season before last Klopp was still (rightly IMO) being ripped into by pundits left, right and centre for failing to switch things up when required.
