So the absolutely terrible, 'get rid of immediately' Serge Aurier has the second highest number of assists of anyone in the team?

And a quick search on the PL website tells me that in total this season he has a grand total of 1 error which led to an opposition goal.

Perhaps he's not quite as terrible as some like to suggest?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well just from recent memory, he could have done better before the Arsenal goal, could have done better before the Newcastle goal and carelessly gave away the corner that lead to Palace's goal.

Difficult to criticise him given the horrific murder of his brother and the brave decision to continue playing after the Arsenal game but pre Arsenal I'm sure there are plenty of other examples.

By the way I don't actually rate Aurier all that highly, but think he gets a disproportionate amount of stick when compared with other players.

Phenom yes I watch our games, but just referring specifically to the stats here seeing as the entirely article is about stats. Plus you failed to read even these properly as it's clearly stated he has 8 assists in all comps, not 5....

The defending on that corner was poor. Easy to blame Aurier if you already have an agenda against him but Dier didn't even challenge Dann for the 1st header then 3 others where more than a few yards away from Schlup or whoever scored the goal. Easily avoidable and Aurier was doubled on when he gave it away. The ball was booted off him too.

Phenom moment

did think it was too low, blaming the OP would make more sense to have the totals at the top

i think the errors and liability that he is makes the criticism justified imo

That 1 mistake leading to an opposition goal stat obviously can't be true since off the top of my head I can think of the clearance against Newcastle that led to their goal, and the conceding of a penalty in the Liverpool game.

A lot of his assists and contributions came since before the restart. He's been rubbish lately.

Would you be back at work days after a relative gets shot?

If theyd been fit then Tanganga or Foyth would have covered for him. IMO he's shown massive character to be making himself available and he's played OK. Hard & harsh to criticise IMO.

Aurier is far from perfect but he is one of the few that has shown clear improvement since Jose arrived.

I'd really expect Jose to be able to improve him further. IMO Aurier has the game and the qualities, its his discipline and decision making that lets him down. Jose is strong in these areas.

That's all well and good re: Aurier playing on after his brother's death, but it's besides the point, he makes too many mistakes in defence and his forward play is pretty average.

I disagree that Jose has improved him and I don't think he's going to get any better. He's 27 and has been with us 3 seasons now. Been with Jose for about 8 months. Too many elementary mistakes in his game for someone so experienced. If we want to start bridging the gap with the teams at the top then we need better full backs. It's that simple.

Trippier was getting absolutely slaughtered in his last season with us and it was almost universally agreed he should move on. If he should then so should Aurier.
