A few days ago I asked what style of football we’d see this season
Today while not the definitive answer suggested it would be counter attacking football set off by very quick transitions from the defence when possession won back.
Makes sense as Maguire isn’t pacey so isn’t gonna spend entire games stood on the halfway line and the likes of Martial are never gonna press anything like the Liverpool players do.
Counter attacking football is my favourite style and if we can make it work and then in the second half of games bring on the likes of James and Greenwood to almost bring a ‘second wave’ of speed to tiring defences then it might just work. Long way to go yet as today I noticed some flaws with the tactics when we launched counter attacks it left our full backs isolated and if we lose the ball after a quick transition the front three are slow to get back and cover the full backs. Took until the 60th minute to properly give Shaw some cover so I hope Ole learns from that.
Counter attacking football

And their full backs are good for creating 15 goals plus a season. TAA has assisted in his last 5 games.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cant our FB's assist?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How many assists does Shaw get?
AWB although fantastic and the best rb defensively needs to improve offensively
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We shall see.renShaw.
And AWB's defensive strength has seen some underestimate his ability going forward.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We shall see? We’ve been watching him for 4 yrs. assists is one thing he is NOT good at
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, but Ole is the most offensively minded coach he has played under so far.
Let's have a little faith lads. We have FBs who get forward, we have the very creative Pogba plus Martial, Rashford and Lingard who link up very well together.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I do have faith. I am also realistic

id actually say Mane is a far better player than Salah.
Salah hugely benefits from system, whereas I feel Mane would be a threat for any team in any system

Salah is considered world class because of his goal scoring record over the last 2 seasons. Mane needs to do the same to be considered world class in my opinion.

Mane is ridiculously quick and sharp. But he won't assist a goal for a team mate often and isn't great at picking s pass. I think Salah is a vastly superior footballer. Just a matter of opinion. They'd both walk into our team, obviously.

Both shaw and awb strength lies in defending, neither is anything like taa or Robertson going forward, and likely never will be, it’s just not their forte, though awb might get better, I don’t think shaw will.

We’ll play differently against shiiiiter teams than Chelsea. We werr clinical today, which was good to see, but I don’t think you can judge this the same as how we will play at home to Sheffield United.

True Mason. Tbh though, the bottom 10 in this league are dreadful. It won't take magic to open them up. Watching Villa v Spurs just summed up the PL for me. Villa went 1 up and tried to hold onto it. Which is fully understandable. But to play without an outlet and just ask the opposition to see if they can score is non league v PL level. They have to be better than that. Spurs were always going to get the goals in those circumstances. And that's the rule, not the exception. Hence we now have a league where 100 points is the goal for the best

Robb, Dave NotSo had an article up discussing this. http://www.ja606.co.uk/articles/viewArticle/410730
I'll also post the link from his post here so you can have a quick read about it. It's from his time at Molde.
https://totalfootballanalysis.com/head-coach-analysis/ole-gunnar-solskjaer-manchester-united-tactical-analysis
Also here is another article that talks about his tactics from last season at United.
http://therepublikofmancunia.com/what-tactics-should-we-expect-from-solskjaer-this-season/
The title to that article is somewhat similar to yours here.
I also suggest watching the games from our preseason to see what he wants us to do. As you will see things in them that you'd find in the articles I've mentioned.
----------
I had posted the above in that post of yours Robb, but you may not have seen it.
I think we lack the midfield to really implement his style. I don't think Ole was satisfied with the incoming as we needed at least another player. Unlike our former manager, he's not going to throw a strop.
Our defence is better. Our attack has potential to improve. But we need to invest in our midfield. McTominay is improving but not at the level we need right now. Other than Pogba, the rsst not up to scratch.
