October 7th, 2018.
That was the date Celtic scored 12 league goals last season.
This season we achieved it on August 10th, not to mention the fact we’ve now scored 25 goals in all competitions already. I’ve been very impressed with us going forward, more so than I thought was possible under Lennon.
I thought the start we made on Saturday was not just a carbon copy of Rodgers but also the same way we always used to play after a European game. Players looking like they’re half asleep, no energy, no movement and a real lack of aggression in the team.
Motherwell we’re deserving of their lead and I was very impressed with how they popped the ball about at times, they’ll do ok this year.
1st goal from our POV is shocking though, Bain has to save it, simple as that and he can’t afford many more of them because I get the feeling Lennon will be waiting for an opportunity to put Gordon back in.
Our response to going a goal down was once again very good and in the Norwegian Maicon, we had someone capable of doing what he did. Fantastic run and some baw from Forrest.
The 2nd goal was another strike for Griffiths although I felt the keeper should have saved it. I thought Griffiths was poor all day but in fairness the service to him wasn’t the best at times.
2nd half we upped the ante and teams in Scotland won’t live with us in that sort of form. I thought Morgan and Boli were very good 2nd half, both looked more assured on the ball and they actually looked like they had a good understanding with each other for a change. Good move from them for the 3rd goal, another strike for Forrest.
The 4th goal was a thing of beauty and it typified the magnificent Oli Ntcham. There’s been wee subtle signs I’ve noticed the last few weeks, not his ability, we all know he has bags of that but his attitude. He’s now demanding the ball, he’s shouting at his team mates if it doesn’t come off, he’s putting in a shift and most importantly his demeanour when we score goals is night and day. Wonderful finish by the once again impressive Edouard as well.
Eddy heavily involved in winning the pen, he’s outstanding when he faces defenders up, his footwork and balance are as good as I’ve seen from a Celtic striker in some time.
Disappointing to lose another goal but overall, very pleased with that on Saturday. Make no mistake, at 1-0 down, a few people would have been creaming their pants so it’s credit to the manager and players for coming back and winning so emphatically.
MOTM either Ajer or Ntcham, I still can’t make up my mind.
Btw, can’t wait for the full stadium to be belting out I wanna be Edouard
Onto tomorrow now and almost a fully fit squad with Jozo back in too. Lennon’s interview on him yesterday proves he might just be the number 2 centre half after Ajer btw. Clearly loves him and to be fair he’s been class under Lennon since he came in.
Team for me tomorrow:
Harsh on Ntcham to be honest but we should still go with the team that’s played well so far.
Send it on.
