Media Watch: Praise for City's young defenders

The brilliance on display in our 5-0 win over West Ham continues to be discussed across the media, and have City got a youthful centre-back pairing waiting in the wings?

It's time for this morning's Media Watch.
Opinion
Manchester Evening News: Man City could have perfect centre back pairing to challenge Stones and Laporte
Stuart Brennan writes: “Taylor Harwood-Bellis seized his chance on tour in the summer when his youth team partner Eric Garcia was playing for Spain at the European Under-19 Championships.
“But Garcia and Harwood-Bellis are a classic combination – a slick Spanish technician and a bruising classic English centre back, although both are comfortable with the ball at their feet.

“Both were rewarded for their progress with places in the travelling squad for the Community Shield last week, with Garcia making the bench.
“Laporte and Stones are seen as the immediate future for City, but the club is hoping their Anglo-Spanish youth team partnership can start to challenge them in the next two or three years.

Garth Crooks put three City players in his Premier League team of the weekend: Ederson, Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne
On Sterling, he writes: “If ever the football writers wanted any endorsement that Raheem Sterling was the right man to receive their coveted award, his performance against West Ham was it.
“The Footballer of the Year started the season by scoring the fourth hat-trick of his professional career - and he did it with a touch of class.

“Sterling was entitled to have a moan at Sergio Aguero about the striker not giving him the opportunity to take the penalty that would have provided him with his third goal against West Ham.
“However, the England international shrugged his shoulders and gave way to the senior player before eventually getting what his performance deserved - a superbly-taken third goal."
The New Indian Express: Manchester City's reserves could win title: Jose Mourinho
“Jose Mourinho claims Manchester City are so strong the Premier League champions could even win the title with their second-string side.
“Mourinho, working as a pundit for Sky Sports on Sunday, was asked who can win the title this season and the former Manchester United boss was quick to highlight City's strength in depth. "Man City, Tottenham, Liverpool and the Man City 'B' team," Mourinho said of the potential title challengers. When I looked at the bench yesterday, the players not involved, I think even the 'B' team could fight for the title.""
That's all for this morning's media roundup - but stay with us throughout the day as we bring you all the latest City news.
