Let's talk about dave

One of the our and the leagues most consistent performers over his career. One of if not the best 1 v 1 defender in the league and a safe pair of hands wherever he played for us. So what has happened to this guy? Never been blessed physically so I don't know if we can blame that for his slump, he just looks like his head has completely gone. Decision making has gone to pot and continually caught out of position. Is there anyway back for him?

Yep, pace has slowed down, gets caught out of position. Needs to be squad player but FL decides about that. On another note, what a performance by Pulisic. He is only 20 years old. Can become a super star. Should be played in the Hazard old spot.

The one thing i am liking about FL is that he seems to make decisions quite quickly and carries them out.
I am sure if we have noticed it about Dave, he will have also.
Dont think sentiment will play any part.
We cannot afford to keep playing him as we did Ivanovic, it cost us on quite a few occasions.

Both goals last night came from Azpi and Zouma (I think?) not stepping out quick enough. This is me being overly critical though, as teams like Liverpool move the ball around so well, it must be an absolute nightmare for defenders.

Lamps already said that he intends for Reece James to play a big part this season when he returns from injury. So I'm expecting us to end the season with Reece James as first choice RB or at least playing a significant part.

Superb it's hard saying these sorts of things about a player who without doubt one of the top 3 in the world in he's position but it comes to all players.
I also feel he is not really Captain material in my opinion. I think we need someone a lot more vocal on the pitch

I believe Rudiger is the future captain of this club, he's quite vocal and possesses leadership qualities.

Rudiger for captain
RJ will be in over Azpi

alot of people on here dug tammy out last night unfairly when it was azpi again out of position for the equaliser

Tammy just has to learn you will not get the chances per game you get in the championship.
If you get one or 2 in the prem you have to put at least one away.
He is struggling at the moment with physicality side of game, but he must keep going get tougher and more tactically aware.
But it is simple really, he will either have it or he won't
But we need to give him a fair crack of the whip, same with all the younger one's.
Some won't make it, that's just the life of a footballer

There are subtle differences between players like Tammy and Michy compared to players like Drogba or Costa or Aguero. The major difference is presence, no premier league defender will dread facing Tammy or Michy thats why he wont make it in the prem. if the others are through on goal the end result is almost guaranteed-Goal, but mich players like Michy and Tammy they will inevitably Crumble.

His best two seasons for us were at CB in a 3 and LB.

This is a key factor. Looking on his career objectively, he has only been world class in these two positions. For Chelsea, and Spain, when played as an orthodox RB, he’s been ok..dependable..he has the mind/ball skills of a CB but the stature of a full back.

Still, you wouldn’t expect him to be so good defensively at CB and LB to being relatively average now at RB..but that’s what seems to have happened.
